Rowena's hands were resting on the wooden surface of the table, her eyes focusing on Arielle's face. The job in a bar was as good a job as any, but Rowena couldn't actually picture herself doing it. She was far too old for that, after all. Still, a job in Hogwarts was, in Rowena's opinion, a much better option. "I hope it will." she answered. "Of course, you can always leave if you dislike the job, but I hope that won't happen." Rowena said seriously, yet softly.
The smile wasn't leaving Rowena's face and she was doing her best not to look smug or too proud. "Well you are constantly surrounded by people who need your help. It can get quite exhausting." Rowena remembered all the sleepless nights, when she'd spent hours trying to solve some problems between her students. Their issues never slept. "The Slytherins are somewhat hard to deal with, yes." Rowena admitted. Then she remembered that Arielle was a Muggle-born witch. It wasn't important to Rowena, but she knew how Salazar and his students valued their blood purity. "Give them detention or a bad grade when they deserve it and they'll be just fine."
Rowena nodded her head. "I am sure everything will be just fine. All you have to do is relax and trust your instincts. And I hope that you'll soon be confident enough to trust your spells."

Arielle grinned her day had brightened incredibly. Now to tell her boss, the landlord she was cutting her hours down to nights and weekends. She wasn't sure if he'd mind or not. She smiled at Rowena, before leaning back in her chair. She flexed her ankles under the table. “I don't think I'll leave, I love working with animals.” she grinned. Animals were her favourite thing to study. She wasn't sure that once she began working with animals, she'd be able to stop.
“I don't understand why Professor Slytherin doesn't teach them more manners” she said with a soft sigh. The Slytherins had been her least favourite people in the school. Not that she had tried to judge them, but the majority made it hard to like the house. “But it must be rewarding right, even if exhausting?” she asked, hoping she'd get a 'yes' back. She sighed and picked up her drink again. She swished the remaining water around in the glass watching the water go up the sides of the glass.
She smiled at Rowena's response, “I'll be sure to remember that” she laughed. “I hope so too” she added with a longing tone in her voice. She wanted to trust her spells, but being a muggleborn she wasn't too shocked at the manual labor. In fact she was more used to using her hands than her wand.

Rowena was satisfied, Arielle's mood seemed to have changed drastically. If only she would stay so happy once she started working for them... "I am glad that you think so. I hope you'll enjoy it, then." Rowena herself had never been particularly interested in Care of Magical creatures, she preferred theoretical knowledge and using different spells, whether they were charms, transfiguration or defensive spells. She always thought that the Ravenclaws ought to be taught by someone whose knowledge of magical creatures was broader than hers.
Rowena sighed impatiently at the mention of Salazar's name. "Salazar fails to do many things, simply because of his own prejudice. One has to overcome one's petty weaknesses, in order to become better and wiser." Rowena frowned. "I take their points away whenever they say something inappropriate." Slytherins so often used the word Mudblood, which Rowena considered highly impolite.
"Of course it is rewarding. It is a beautiful feeling to see your students achieve their goals and become whatever they wanted. It is wonderful seeing them grow up and become independent persons, seeing their abilities develop..." Rowena smiled as she broke off. "I apologise, I got a bit too carried away."

Arielle rolled her shoulders back, her shoulders ached from the day's work, but it wasn't too frustrating. She just carried on rolling her shoulders for a few moments. “I am sure I will, this is what I wanted to do since my first year” she said, over exaggerating a little bit. She had only really found her love of the subject in her third year. Also she was good with animals. She always had been. Not that she wasn't okay with people too.
“Prejudice is a bad thing” she said softly. She hated being judged for her 'blood'. Though she wasn't good with spells, she was just as competent as any other witch. “I agree” she smiled. It was true. One did have to overcome their weaknesses to be better. Arielle smirked, at the idea of taking away points from annoying Slytherins. She wanted to get her own back in a petty way.
“It's fine, I was enjoying listening to you” Arielle said sweetly. She loved how much Rowena loved her job. It made her believe she would love her's just as much. “I'm sure it's a very wonderful experience, I can't wait to help students through their studies.” she smiled sweetly.

Rowena was surprised. She looked at Arielle with puzzled look on her face. "Really? I had no idea that you wanted to do this job. I would have offered it to you sooner, if I had known." The brunette shrugged. "Well, I guess it's not too late to do it now." Rowena reached for her glass and took another sip.
Rowena nodded her head in agreement. "Yes it is." she replied sadly. "However, some people cannot learn to overcome the differences." Rowena was disgusted with behaviour of Salazar and his students. Even though she herself was a pure-blood witch, she'd never considered it important. After all, she had met so many brilliant Muggle-born witches and wizards, who were much more intelligent than some pure-bloods. Rowena noticed Arielle's smirk and smiled. "Of course, I only take their points away when they deserve it, just like I give them points when they deserve." She didn't believe that Arielle would abuse her power, but some things simply had to be mentioned. Just in case.
Rowena lowered her gaze. Perhaps she had been boring to poor Arielle and the girl was too polite to tell her that. The tone of Arielle's voice made her change her mind. "Alright." she said, with a small shy smile. "It's a wonderful job. You'll see." Rowena smiled sweetly, looking at Arielle.

Arielle smiled pleasantly, and nodded, "Well, I wanted since my... 3rd or 4th, since that was when I began to actually enjoy hogwarts" she admitted than blushed as she realised what she'd said. "It was only because I hated not being able to do the spells properly, I got a little better after that" she smiled at her, hoping she hadn't stuck her foot in it. "Well, I should have said something, I always thought that I was under qualified to take the job, I wanted to study while I was at home and then come to you and ask" Arielle spoke rubbing the back of her neck.
Arielle finished her water and pushed the glass away from her. She leant back in the chair, looking for the landlord again. "It's rather sad really, if they weren't so closed minded they would find the world" she paused and mentally added and muggleborns "is such a brilliant place, and life is to short to spend it angry and cold" she sighed. Arielle knew she'd been caught smirking, and began to bite her lip, expecting a telling off, like she was still in school, but Rowena simply explained she only took the points away when a student deserved it. "Thats only fair, it would be rather petty of me to take points away when they don't deserve it" she acknowledged.
"Its nice listening to someone talking excitedly about a job they love, sure as hell beats the people who moan about it" she said with a short laugh. "I'm sure it is a brilliant job, I can't wait to be working with animals" Arielle smiled excitedly, then added "and the students of course" with another amused laugh

Rowena nodded her head in response, returning the warm smile. "Yes, I guess it takes time to get used to Hogwarts and start enjoying it." Rowena patiently listened to Arielle's words, nodding her head every now and then to show that she was listening carefully. "It doesn't matter now. Everything happens for a reason, they say." Rowena shrugged and smiled. "Perhaps it's better this way. Well, you know that we are always willing to take young assistants who are interested in certain fields of magic more than ourselves."
The older witch sighed sadly. "They are making a mistake, but don't realise it yet. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to change their minds. And Salazar doesn't even want to do anything." Rowena sighed again. Then she smiled. "Yes, that is exactly what I love to hear. One has to think positively in order to have only positive things happening." Rowena looked satisfied with Arielle's words. "Exactly. We always have to be fair and treat all the students just the same." Rowena realised that she'd nearly quoted Helga Hufflepuff and smiled.
Rowena chuckled at Arielle's words. "I am very pleased to say that most of our teachers like their jobs and do not moan about them... not in front of me, at least." Rowena laughed. "I am sure that you'll do just fine. With both animals and students."

Arielle pulled a cloth from her apron, and mindlessly rubbed at the table with it. Removing any marks her glass had made. She nodded, “It'll be a change” she added, though she knew it wouldn't be a bad change, all change was rather shocking. “Perhaps, for one I'm a little older than most of the Seventh years now” she smiled. She wondered what it would have been like to teach a group of pupils her age. She supposed some of the older seventh years would be around the same age as her, she hoped that would cause any trouble.
She dragged her teeth over her bottom lip. “Maybe one day, they will realise that they've made a mistake, one has to have hope” she smiled. “And, without positive thoughts you can not cast the patronus charm” She listened to what Rowena had to say, and smiled as she knew she'd said the right thing to Rowena about the points. “Professor Hufflepuff used to say something like that. Right?” she asked, she was sure her head of house had said something like that. “but, yes, being fair is what makes a good teacher.” she paused “and kind. It's rather hard to learn when you fear the teacher” added Arielle in a light tone.
She laughed along with Rowena “That's nice to hear, I can't wait to talk to the rest of the staff” she smiled, though in her mind she added except maybe Slytherin. I think I'll give him a miss. She didn't want to be called a mud-blood by someone who would hopefully be her colleague, as long as she could help it, she would try to avoid confrontation with the judgemental Slytherin. “Thank you Rowena, that's very nice you to to say”
