Grey seemed to be everywhere. Even the bright red torches appeared grey to Anastasia from the corners of her vision. She knew that that illusion was a lie, but she could think nothing to shake it. It pervaded throughout her bleakest days. She knew it represented the lies that surrounded her life. Everytime father spoke to her, she felt like it was a lie. It made her feel guilty, suspecting her father of deception. She had tried many tactics to combat the feeling but none of them worked.
"Is something wrong with me?" Anastasia whispered to a someone who was not there to hear. Her query was answered only by a passerby's laughter and whispered affirmation. Anastasia felt the biting pain of ridicule. Though her features showed no emotion. She wore the short dress that she always wore on weekends[Pictured in Signature], it was enchanted to clean itself as she was prone to accidents especially with quill and ink. Though there was a limit to the enchantment, Anastasia had pushed it so many times.
Anastasia who had been motionlessly lying upon a small sofa with her feet hanging off the side in the girl student's common room, suddenly stirred as if something had gripped her and pulled her to her feet violently. The reaction to invisible entities attracted the giggles of nearby first years. Anastasia ignored them, her eyes completely out of focus. She was guided toward a window which she seemed to peer out of but she did not move her head or eyes to follow anything in particular.

"What are you reading?" Yelisabeta asked her fraternal twin.
Without looking up Anoushka said, "Fedyenka sent us a birthday letter."
Yelisabeta nudged her sister to the side and sat down beside her in the arm chair. Huddled together the read their brother's letter, pausing at intervals to laugh. Fedyenka told them about Dmitry losing his first tooth and then swallowing it because his friend dared him to. Suddenly the light cast from the window dimmed. Both Gavronskiis looked up in unison, their eyes locking on Anastasia. Anoushka tilted her head to the side and watched the older student intently, noticing that she seemed troubled. On the other hand Yelisabeta, who tended to act before thinking, huffed loudly and leaned forwards in the seat.
"Corwin. You are blocking the light," she pointed out matter of factly.
The blonde's words were followed by a loud yelp as Anoushka nudged her twin in the side.

Focus returned to Anastasia's eyes at the call of her name. She turned and sat on the window sill. She could feel the chill of the air outside even through the window. Though she ignored it. Anastasia looked up to the top of the dark window before she turned her gaze to Yelisabeta. "My sincerest apology. I only meant to protect your lovely complexion."
Anastasia leaned against the side of the window onto her left shoulder. The cool air threatened to numb her back side by now but she continued to ignore it. Despite having been in a weak trance, she had not missed the telling yelp Yelisabeta had issued. She turned her head to Anoushka's direction and smiled pleasantly. "What are you two up to that requires sunlight?" [/blockquote]

Yelisabeta arched an eye brow and pursed her lips at Anastasia's reply. Scoffing to herself she thought, Sarcasm. How delightful. Before the older twin could issue a witty response, Anoushka jabbed her side. Yelisabeta yelped and frowned at the blonde beside her. Ana could be such a spoil sport, she mused. Yelisabeta could not understand why she always had to be the level-headed one, the responsible twin etc etc... Beth rolled her eyes and slumped back in the armchair with her arms folded over her chest. Ana shook her head at her sister's behaviour and looked down, resuming to read the letter. Anastasia question brought a smile back to her face and with a faint twinkle in her eyes, she looked at the older student.
"Reading a letter from our brother. Fedy..."
Her voice trailed away and this time it was her turn to yelp as Yelisabeta shoved her.
"She is not interested Ana. Can't you tell?" Beth said while gesturing at Anastasia.

Anastasia's gaze had shifted to the ground as the two sisters answered in kind. She had to admit, as much as she didn't like her, Yelisabeta was spot on in her assessment. Though the same would have been true for anyone's brothers, including anastasia's own. She didn't like men in particular. Not one of her brothers nor her supposed father had ever understood her. Anastasia was surrounded by unabashedly cruel and domineering men. She had no care to discuss such a boring topic however.
"That may be true. But I did ask."
The twins before her were nearly identical even in their actions. Anastasia secretly envied them. Her twin couldn't be more her opposite. "My brothers never send letters. But most of us see eachother quite regularly, I suppose that's why." Anastasia began to drag her finger along edge of the window sill a few times. Her eyes tracked the movement as it went. She didn't care to admit that no one in her family cared for her much. Those that did were unable to and those that had once upon a time were abused by her until they were driven away. [/blockquote]

Beth raised an eyebrow and waved her hand dismissively at Anastasia, "Irrelevant."
"Our time is by far too precious to waste on people who amuse themselves by asking questions but who do not care for the answer," she added arrogantly.
Anoushka was shocked by her twin's behaviour and turned to look at her sternly. However, Yelisabeta ignored her.
"Run along. Go. Go. Good bye."
That was the last straw for the younger Gavronskii twin. Ana gingerly stood up, taking the letter with her, and approached Anastasia. The older student was making an effort to have a conversation with them and she would not allow her rude sister to ruin it.
"Our brothers are still young to attend Durmstrang..."
She paused.
"Perhaps you know our older sister. Catia?"

Anastasia glared across the space between them at the rude Gavronskii as she spoke. For a moment it seemed as though Anastasia was going to react to her command. She did want to leave, more because sitting against the window was beginning to numb her.
Anastasia lifted a brow when Anoushka rose and approached her. At first she expected the girl to plead with her to leave. It was what she would have done if it was Ivan insulting someone, but then she knew that Ivan was prone to violence.
"Catia, yes. In her sixth year? If not, I don't believe I've ever met your Catia before." Anastasia often forgot surnames, her mother didn't have one at all. She preferred to recall people by their first names alone though it was alot more confusing.

Oh? Is that what you want little girl? Beth thought to herself when noticing the look on Anastasia's face. Mimicking the older girl Yelisabeta glared, her eyes never once leaving those of her opponent. That is, until Anoushka stood up and blocked her view. Irritated by the interruption Beth turned sideways in the armchair and leaned back, until her head was on the armrest. No longer paying attention to her twin, Ana nodded enthusiastically at the brunette's response.
"Yes, yes. She is the one."
Curious she then asked, "Who are your brothers?"
When in company Anoushka was mostly with her sisters. Other than them she kept to herself, as a result she did not know other students outside class.

Anastasia did her best to continue ignoring Yelisabeta, but her brain would sometimes slip and she'd find herself glaring in the girl's direction. Thankfully, she recognized her behaviour quickly. Her sister had taught her a technique for controlling herself; Anastasia began to breathe heavily. She could recall another step but not exactly what it might be. It didn't seem to matter as it had already done the trick.
Anastasia looked up at the ceiling for a moment as if in deep thought. Ana's question caught her off gaurd. Anastasia would have never asked someone about their brothers. She lifted her hand in front of her and began to count her fingers as though she had forgotten how many brothers she had.
"Professor Maximilian is the oldest of them. Then there's Katherine but she's not a brother, I guess. Oh and Alexei and Gregorei; they hate eachother. Lamia is a squib and not a brother also." Anastasia chuckled, having forgotten to exclude both of her sisters who weren't supposed to be mentioned. "Last one is Ivan. He and I were born together. Father says its a bad omen." Anastasia grinned at Anoushka proudly
"Have you ever seen a dragon? Quite bored of talking about brothers, Anastasia changed the subject suddenly.

Yelisabeta did not mind being ignored although the petty chatter between her twin and Anastasia was annoying her. She could hardly believe how naive Ana could be at times. Shaking her head, Beth shifted to a more comfortable position and closed her eyes. Father says it's a bad omen, the brunette girl said. Yeli could not help but laugh at the statement. The only bad omen about the pair was Anastasia - both Yeli and her twin drooled after Ivan's looks. While Yelisabeta thought Anastasia was stupid for also mentioning her sisters, Anoushka did not mind. The blonde was actually fascinated, especially by Lamia. She wondered how the girl felt, knowing that a muggle had stolen her rightful magic from her.
Her eyes grew to the size of small saucers, "A dragon? No, never. Have you?"

Though far from glaring daggers, Anastasia would sometimes glance in Beth's direction, as though expecting a snake to strike if she did not keep an eye on it. She did not even realize how paranoid she was behaving. To be honest, she could not focus her mind on anything but what curse to employ if a snake had attacked her. With a sudden jerk, Anastasia jumped with fright. She peered behind her expecting to see a snake barring its poisonous fangs. The window was coated in a soft frost by now. Anastasia grimaced and hopped down from the window sill.
Anastasia actually jumped when the younger girl answer her question. She hadn't thought to check for dragons through the window. With a quick glance, she quickly scanned the grounds that the window revealed. She reassured herself; Father would never let a dragon on the grounds. Would he? Terror erupted within Anastasia and she answered Anoushka shakily, turning her head back to the younger student, "Y-yes. I've seen a few Opaleyes. They're from far, far away. My father has an obsession with dragons."

It was not difficult to notice how jumpy Anastasia seemed to be and both Gavronskiis watched her intently. Yelisabeta wanted nothing more than to chuckle and ridicule her, but then she saw her twin's look of concern and that was enough to make her bite back the comments. The talk about dragons intrigued Beth and she pondered about coaxing Catia into going on dragon-watch. Maybe, just maybe they would invite Anoushka... if the blonde stopped befriending this Corwin girl.
Anoushka stepped towards the window and curiously peered outside, wondering what had Anastasia so anxious. She turned slightly and looked up at the older girl while she spoke. Knowing that the girl's father had a curious fascination with dragons brought her own fascination to the surface. Ana bit on her bottom lip and wondered whether or not to speak her mind. She glanced nervously at Beth, who was now practicing a series of charms. Ana did not wish for her twin to over hear.
She lowered her voice and asked, "What about vampires? Have you ever seen one?"

Anastasia's glances in Yelisabeta slowed after a few short moments. Now far too occupied with invading hordes of dragons to be fearful at all of a mere snake. She began to take awkward glances through the window instead. Though not nearly as excitedly-charged as her fear of snakes, being that a dragon could not possibly creep up behind her quietly in this enclosed space. It merely seemed as though she was expecting someone to arrive from over the horizon.
When Anoushka joined her at the window, Anastasia looked sideways at the smaller girl. She admired the blonde's hair. The question caught her unawares. At first, not realizing what Anoushka had asked. Having been preoccupied imaging herself with blonde hair. Anastasia recoiled when she realized she had been asked about vampires. Her legs nearly gave way beneath her as she stumbled backward now facing Anoushka directly. She peered across at Anoushka after steadying her stance. Wondering what to tell her or if she should tell her anything at all. Anastasia's cheeks turned red and her eyes began to tear as she shook her head in response. She opened her mouth to respond but couldn't find any words. The glint on that vampire's teeth was one of the few things she remembered from her childhood.
She lowered her gaze to the floor shamefully, realizing she had made it quite obvious by now she had met a vampire before. "Yes. Actually, I'm lucky to be counted among the living right now. I was attacked when I was little." Anastasia's mouth gaped open for a moment after admitting it. She closed her mouth and turned back toward the window away from Anoushka. "Vampirism frightens me." She whispered quietly, not wanting Beth or anyone else to know. Despite that being quite obvious by now.

Anastasia was a peculiar girl, however, rather than put off Anoushka was curious to learn more about her. She wondered if the two of them could become friends or if this was a one time conversation - either way, Ano planned on getting to know the brunette as much as possible. She knew Beth would not approve, but she did not care. Yelisabeta was after all her sister and not her guardian and protector; and Anoushka was old enough to know what is best for her. Yes sir, she did not need her siblings to guide her through life. Anastasia reaction caught her off guard and she immediately regretted bringing up the subject. Ano was captivated by the fanged creatures and could not understand how others loathed them. Then again, Anastasia seemed to have a valid reason for that.
"I am glad your life was spared," she replied genuinely.
The blonde girl placed her hand on Anastasia's shoulder and squeezed reassuringly, "It's ok to be scared."

Anya was touched by Ana's show of compassion. The blonde seemed genuine to her but her similar look to the more rude twin was distracting. Anya folded her arm up and put a firm hand over Ana's hand on her shoulder. Anya turned her head and looked down at the younger girl. Anya was unable to smile, the thought of the vampire had brought memories of her sister back to her. In an attempt to hide her pain, Anya poked Ana's nose with her finger. She then turned her head away to keep her frown from sight.
"You are very kind." Anastasia spoke lightly with a calm that hadn't been present in her voice until now. "Thank you."
