Sly looked at the professor for a moment, it seemed they would have to use gillyweed in order to collect the Nilgu, he just looked at the professor asking a question and then looked at Alaric when he answered, Sly was caressing his chin softly while looking at the professor and then the student. Sly knew about the gillyweed but Alaric already said the most important parts of it, he just looked at Helga calmly and started talking. "It's not much professor but I heard the gillyweed can be used as an ingredient in a drink called Gillywater. Oh and it presumably the effects last for an hour on fresh water, the specialists aren't sure about salty waters though." Sly said, that's all he could really add to it, as he looked at the professor, he was curious on this gillywater thing, was it good and did it have the effect of the plant? He just shook his head calmly and just looked at the professor for a while.(Also taken from Harry Potter Wiki )

Amelie’s smile widened when Roxanna said hey back, which meant she remembered her name correctly. Just then, someone’s booming voice made her turn her head. “What is that supposed to mean?” She narrowed her eyes at Alaric then laughed. In her peripheral, she caught sight of Sly and she gave him a smile. She then, noticed the slow arrival of other people. Apparently, class time was nearing. She was busy people-watching when Prudence comment reached her ears. She just said and enthusiastic hey and rolled her eyes at her before muttering. “Like I’m going to ever be that responsible.” Like she’d even want to be that responsible.
She was about to raise an eyebrow at Ric’s weird behavior when the professor called the class to order. Nilgu? A giant sea weed… Amelie’s interest was piqued. She just hoped she would not have a rather too memorable accident that day. Amelie’s gaze was focused on her house’s head as she tried to get all the information she was saying. When the professor proclaimed that they were going to collect sea weed, she felt both excited and nervous. And, when the professor started asking questions, Amelie did what she always deed, she just observed other students answer the professor’s questions.

Helga shifted her gaze to Sly. She smiled and said, "And that is also Correct Mr Asbreek. Ten points for Hufflepuff." The young founder lingered beside the table, eying the Gillyweed for several seconds. "I should warn you that it will not be an easy task. The Merpeople will be keeping an eye on each and one of you. However I would like to remind you to be aware of Grindylows and Kappas." Helga pointed her wand at the board; the writing instantly disappeared and was replaced with drawings of the three magical creatures she had just mentioned. Helga turned back to face the class and said, "I believe you have already covered the magical creatures I just mentioned. Miss Sparks, perhaps you would like to tell us what Merpeople are?" Helga paused for a brief second and scanned the faces of her students. "And after hearing your answer, Miss [Monique or Amanda] Drayton can tell us what a Grindylow is and Miss Kendall will enlighten us with an explanation of Kappas."

Amelie was busy imagining herself under water, collecting Nilgu, when the professor mentioned the word ‘merpeople’ and her name too close to each other. She turned away from the lake focused on the professor, surprised. Talk about keeping a low profile… She sighed, hoping the professor hadn’t ask her to recite because she saw her mind was already on the lake. “Merpeople are sentient beings that live underwater, and are found all over the world. Their customs and habits are mysterious, and, like the Centaurs, they refused Being status in favour of Beast.” She said calmly, pausing only to take a breath. “Their language is known as Mermish, and only a few Wizards know how to speak it. However, since their language can only be heard properly underwater, it sounds like a loud screeching when spoken above water.” She added, grimacing as she recalled the screeching merpeople made whenever they were above water. "Perfect Miss Sparks. I would like you to participate more in class," Helga said gently. She moved to stand in front of Helena and said, "Miss Ravenclaw could you kindly distribute the Gillyweed to your fellow students." She paused and directed her gaze in Justin's direction, "Mr Law will help you." Helga looked like she had just remembered something vitally important. "I almost forgot. Ten points for Miss Sparks," she said apologetically. Helga enjoyed rewarding all of her students when they answered a question correctly. "Miss Drayton? Miss Kendall? The class is waiting." When neither girl answered Helga pursed her lips and added, "Unless someone else wants to tell us what a Grindylow and a Kappa is." Helga looked down at both girls encouragingly.

Writing down all the said information, quickly. She held her quill to the page, looked at Professor Hufflepuff, "Sorry Miss" she apologised "The Kappa is a Japanese water demon. It resembles a scale-covered monkey with webbed hands and a water-filled depression on top of its head. The water in this hollow is the source of the creature's strength. Kappas live in shallow water. They prey on the blood of humans, strangling anyone unlucky enough to wade into their ponds and rivers. However, a person confronted with a Kappa can do something to protect themselves, either by appeasing the creature or outsmarting it. A Kappa will not attack a person if it is thrown a cucumber inscribed with that person's name. It can also be tricked into bowing, so that the water spills out of the hollow on its head, rendering it powerless." she answered quickly, not taking many pauses. She looked down again afterwards and pulled gently at the ends of her hair. She jotted down what she had said.

Monique was looking at the professor blankly, already making plans on taking the gillyweed and being the first to collect the plant. Then she realized that professor was talking to her. Mon blushed before answering the question. "I'm sorry, professor Hufflepuff. A grindylow is a pale green underwater creature that live in the weed beds at the bottom of lakes in Great Britain and Ireland. It has green teeth, pointy horns and long fingers, which are used to pull prey into the water. They are violent and aggressive towards wizards and witches and Muggles." Mon took a deep breath before continuing "Merepeople keep them as pets sometimes. They eat fish, algae, and small sea creatures and they can even attack and eat people."

Cherry had fallen asleep at a bench near the Herbology classroom in the castle. She had been at the breakfast when Professor Hufflepuff told everyone that the class was elsewhere. But Cherry had obviously forgotton somewhere along the day. She had just got back to the school from a short break to the Forbidden Forest and had been exhausted all day. She had managed to get through the morning without any trouble but had been overcome with exhaustion at lunch.
Cherry woke as someone passed. She did not think much time had passed so she merely laid out across the bench to get comfortable and drifted back in a slumber. She had a dream that she made Head Girl as a seventh year and won the Elder Wand in a duel. It was a silly dream because she knew the Elder Wand was a mythical object and not real.
Another person woke Cherry as they passed by. Cherry turned around on the bench and curled into a small ball. She was about to enter a new dream when someone shook her shoulder violently. Cherry woke and sat up straight. She rubbed her eyes with each hand but still found her eyelids difficult to keep open. She could not recognize who had disturbed her when she demanded, "What is it? Is Herbology starting?"

Justin was busy taking notes regarding the information presented on Nilgu, Gillyweed and the other magical creatures. Upon seeing the jars of gillyweed, he immediately understood what they were supposed to do for today's lesson. Upon finishing his notes, he suddenly felt slightly nauseous as he forgot to eat anything prior to coming to class. He quickly shoved his hand into his pocket for some pie that he saved from lunch and ate it.
When he was finished, he then felt Professor Hufflepuff's gaze on him and realized that she was directing him to help Helena distribute the gillyweeds to the class. He then stood up and faced Helena and said, "Shall we go?" He then went to the front of the class where the gillyweed was kept. He gazed at the class and started counting.

Helena smiled at the professor, nodded at her instructions and waited for Justin to finish eating his pie. She was quite amused that he brought a slice of pie with him and stifled a chuckle as she remembered the time she ate toast in Charms. While waiting, she busied herself by taking down notes and taking in all that the professor was lecturing.
“Yeah, I think we should start distributing Gillyweed.” Moments later, she found herself handing Gillyweed to half of her classmates. “Excited to visit your fellow beasts, Drayton?” She whispered slyly to Monique Drayton. She was shoving Gillyweed on Monique’s hand when she saw someone taking a nap on a bench nearby. Frowning, she went over to the girl. Judging by her looks, she would be around six or seventh year. Shaking her head and deciding that waking her up before the professor noticed her sleeping would be better for everyone, she started to shake her shoulders to make her say hello to the world. Helena had to stop herself from rolling her eyes at her question. “Actually, it has been going on for about ten minutes now.” She informed her, sighing before handing her the last Gillyweed.

After counting out the half of the class, he got out some gillyweed and started distributing to the other half of the class. He strode over to the Sixth year Gryffindor student and gave her the gillyweed. After which, he went to distribute the rest of the gillyweed to his fellow Slytherin who was seated next to a younger Gryffindor student, and another male Hufflepuff student until he reached the seats being occupied by two Ravenclaws and who he assumed was a seventh year Hufflepuff. Upon seeing the Ravenclaw guy, he realized that he was the one who glared at him moments earlier. He set the Gillyweed on his hand and smiled at him, before he gave the remaining gillyweeds to Prudence, whom he winked at and to the Seventh Year Hufflepuff, whom he greeted with a nod. He then returned to the front of the class, saying, "Everyone's got the gillyweed now professor," and returned to his seat, with his own gillyweed on hand.

Helga smiled down at Roxanna and listened to her attentively. She placed her hand on the Gryffindor's shoulder and complimented her. "Excellent Miss Kendall. I hope each one of you has written down what Miss Kendall just said. I believe it will be of great use for the task." Helga paused to listen to Monique, feeling extremely proud of the students. "Correct as well. Both of you get ten points for your respective house." A thought crossed her mind and she started worrying that the students might feel threatened by the sea creatures.
She walked back to the front of the class and said, "Rest assured that neither the Kappas nor Grindylows will mortally harm you. The Merpeople have been instructed to pull you to safety IF anything goes wrong." Helga watched Helena and Justin distribute the Gillyweed. Her gaze followed Helena as the girl moved away from the class. She then noticed Cherry asleep on the bench. With his words, Justin caught Helga's attention. She turned to him and smiled, "Thank you Mr Law. You may resume your seat."
Helga started walking towards Helena and Cherry. She paused behind the former and said, "Helena? Thank you. Can you leave us for a second? And return to your seat?" Helga waited patiently until Helena had left their side before sitting down beside Cherry. "Miss Boulais. Late again," she commented softly. Helga tipped her head to one side and said, "I would like a private word with you after class." She then briefly explained that for that day's they would be collecting Nilgu from the lake.
The Hufflepuff founder stood up and lead the way towards the other students. "Miss Campbell could you kindly make some space for Miss Boulais. And please give her the notes we have taken so far." She paused and smiled at Prudence before thanking her. Helga started moving around the desks and said, "A practical session also means that I will be expecting at least one scroll of parchment from each one of you, about your experience under the water."
"The best three will earn 30 house points each. All the rest will be awarded 10 points for effort." She paused and returned to the front of the class. "Please do not forget that the effects of the Gillyweed wears off after an hour. Do not feel obliged to test your limits. I would not wish to see any of you injured." Helga moved towards Alexandra and announced, "You have fifteen minutes to get ready for the task."
OOC
Dear students,
This is an actual, yet optional task. As mentioned above the best 3 posts will be awarded 30 house points. Here are some guidelines, that you are kindly encouraged to follow:
- The post should be PMed directly to Professor Hufflepuff and NOT posted in this current thread.
- The minimum number of words allowed is 150.
- It can either be written in third or first person; whatever makes you more comfortable.
- Marks will be awarded for creativity and the use of magical creatures mentioned in class.
- For obvious reason, grammar and orthography mistakes will not be taken into consideration.
- Each member, regardless of the number of characters, can only submit one post.
- For those accepting the challenge; you have precisely two weeks to send your post.
- Most importantly do not feel pressured to accept the task, I simply thought it would be a fun way to earn some extra house points.
- Last but not least, feel free to continue posting in the thread. However, stop after your character has swallowed the Gillyweed.
If it is not too much to ask, I would like you to send me a PM and tell me whether or not you accept the challenge.
Thank you for your time and patience.
Cheers, Tina

Cherry's vision finally came into focus. She tried to grasp the gillyweed that Helena gave to her but dropped it when she was too slow to react. Cherry groaned and scooped the herb off the floor. She began picking at it to get dirt off of it. She paused when Professor Hufflepuff approached her and sat next to her. Cherry frowned and put her head in her hands feeling guilty about having dozed off and missing the first part of her Head of House's class. Cherry replied to the Professor's request softly, "Yes, Ma'am."
Cherry got to her feet and joined the rest of the class. She sighed, having forgot her bag under the bench. Cherry ran back to it and hoisted the brown satchel over her shoulder. She ran back to the class once again with just as much energy as she had the first time. Despite being tired and having run back and forth. Cherry dropped the bag to the ground as she sat on the ground. She dug through the bag for a moment before extracting a notepad and a broken quill. Cherry copied down the notes hastily. She made several mistakes but did not notice them.
