News came in the night and Eliphas apparated to the doorstep of his father's manor as soon as he'd heard. Even this late, there were magic lights over the fields and Muggle serfs were busy at work. Eliphas approached the large oak door and tapped it three times with his wand. The doors spread wide and revealed the Lestrange's most grand possession, their patron's home. A house elf stood to greet Eliphas. He bowed and motioned for Eliphas to follow him without a word. Eliphas followed the elf. He was led through the corridors until they came to another grand doorway.
Eliphas' eyes spread wide as the door opened and Loki stood in front of him. Eliphas ignored his older brother, and strode past the elf into his father's chambers. Davian Lestrange senior sat tall in his bed. Eliphas was amazed at the old man's strength.
"I regret nothing, Eliphas. It was always you, my son." Eliphas wondered about his father's sanity for a moment. "You have a job in front of you, boy! You are aware?" Eliphas narrowed his eyes, his father had revereted back to the usual displeasurable tone he used when addressing Eliphas.
Eliphas nodded in response. "The safety of Loki, Heir of Davian Lestrange, and the Heir of Loki Lestrange is the more important than life itself." He recited as though it were song.
"Good." Davian Lestrange rocked back and forth upon the side of his bed. "Lurch, close the door." The door slammed shut and Loki and the House elf Lurch were left outside. "Your sister will arrive momentarily. So we do not have much time. There is a reason for everything that I have done, my boy. That damned heretic was too incompetent to see my plans. No matter, he is nothing now. The path ahead has always been your destiny, Eliphas. I made your path hard to follow so that you are mighty enough to take what belongs to you and the Lestranges when you can! You have passed all of your trials. And there is one more yet to overcome. You know what you must do."
Eliphas was utterly confused. He did not like this riddle's outcome as much as he thought he would. Eliphas nodded his head once more. "It will be done." Eliphas turned his gaze as his father started a coughing fit. There was no sympathy in Eliphas' gaze. The old man was a demon, to set his sons upon one another. But even so, Eliphas would remove all opposition. But not for his father and his father knew that.
"Open the door. Your sister has arrived." Eliphas reacted promptly, turning and throwing open the doorway. Loki still stood outside. Though, Lurch, the house elf had gone. Eliphas watched Loki with intensity as their father began to cough again.
