Melody pulled her heels off her feet as she came up to the sand like rocky shore of the lake. It was middle of the day and she had no classes on friday afternoon, and saw fit to roam the grounds. Melody was only a third year, still very young but she felt old at the moment. She pulled a small sucker from her pocket, cherry flavored, and unwrapped it as her toes hit the soft, warm sand. The sun was lightly licking the ground as she walked through the sand, licking and savoring the sweetness of candy. Melody Marks didn't want to go back to the dorm, all she saw were loud rowdy slytherin's talking about the holidays come up really fast. Christmas was coming soon and everyone couldn't wait to go home and celebrate. Mel planned to stay at school. Home there would be mindless dribble, parties with people who didn't care, parents who thought she was weak because she was young and anemic. Biting hard on the candy, Mel looked to her wrist. Her skin was pale, almost translucent depending on how much iron she had in her system at that time. It worried her how easy it would be to be hurt and bleed herself to nothing. Mel dropped her heels in the sand and placed herself down on the sand as well, making sure not to get it in her shorts. Thinking like that would get her nowhere. Pulling out her wand, she began to trace symbols and doodles in the sand next to her. "So....Bored...." She sighed. Outfit

Amanda made her way to the lake, she had no lesson and did not want to sit and study in the common room or library, so she felt a trip to the lake was necessary. Amanda liked to study by the lake, it was calming. Once Mandy was close to the shore, she looked around. She wanted somewhere pretty secluded, so she wasn't distracted. Amanda stopped to watch as one girl sat doodling in the sand. There wasn't many people around her, and Amanda thought the girl was a slytherin, which was a bonus. Atleast she wouldn't have to sit near some girl - or boy - from another house. Mandy walked over, over hearing her statement, Amanda smirked slighlty, "Me too" she said simply, before sitting close but leaving a good gap between them. Although it was cold, Mandy didnt mind. Amanda loved the cold winter weather. In fact her birthday was in one of the coldest months of the year. The daughter of the 'insane' teacher, looked around and then pulled out a text book, and placed it lightly on her lap. She would read it soon, but not just yet. Amanda was staying over the holidays, she had to, seeing as her mother had already agreed to stay, Amanda had no one else to go to. "I'm Amanda" she spoke after a while. "Your in Slytherin right?" she asked, then added "I'm sure I've seen you in ther common room", after that she opened her book, and skimmed her eyes over the page, picking up little bits of information. Amanda smoothed her long lace covered skirt, which had a white camisole tucked into it, with a cream see through shirt over the top and then like the other girl, took off her shoes, she had little cream pumps on unlike the other girls heels. Mandy shot a quick grin at her, while placing her shoes neatly beside her.

Mel looked up to the voice that answered her words. She was actually surprized that someone had actually come out to be by the lake at the same time she was. But now that there was another person, Mel just hoped that they were slytherin and not annoying. Some slytherin girls were overly annoying, they were prissy, and feather brained. They were ruining the tough and intelligent name that Slytherins brought. However, when she sat down and pulled out a text book, Melody knew that the girl couldn't be an idiot and she felt relief wash over her. Looking out to the ocean, Melody Marks leaned back on her palms, letting her long strawberry blond hair fall down her back. Mel liked her curls, they were light and bouncy, and for once, she was glad her mother was a bombshell. Atleast she gave her daughter a way to get what she wanted. Looking to the brunette, she cocked her brow. Amanda, She was sure she had seen her, but she wasn't the same age as Melody. "Melody, but call me Mel." She flashed a small smile, "Yea, Slytherin, 3rd year... I'm guessing, hmmm...6th year... no, 5th." She nodded towards the book, "What's got you studying so hard?" She asked. Mellie looked to the girls pumps before looking to her own. Most slytherin's had a distinct sense of style, stylish, sleek, and intimidating. Nothing made younger girls more intimidating than a girl in pumps and a scowl. Outfit

Amanda let her eyes flicker across the page once again, hoping to retain more information this time. She lifted one hand, and placed it carefully underneath the page she was reading and flicked it over. "Ouch!" she exclaimed, and looked at her finger to see a thin trail of red droplets of blood dripping from an barely there cut. She frowned, damn paper cuts! They may be small, but they stung like crazy, she placed her finger to her lips and quickly licked the blood from her finger, it was either that or wipe it on her clothes - which she was not going to do!
She looked at... Melody. "Nice to meet you, Mel" she shuffled slightly as she spoke, placing her legs to her side rather than infront of her. "Yup im a 5th year. Good guess" she grinned at the 3rd year slytherin. So, Mel was a third year like her sister, she wondered if Mel knew Monique, but didn't ask. Amanda knew the colours she had chosen weren't the normal slytherin colours. So what. She liked the pale colours. Well, she did prefer the silver and greens, but before Hogwarts, she had always chosen paler colours. It was probably to do with the fact that she wanted to blend in. "Potions." she said, the corners of her lips turning up into a smile of their own accord. "I like potions" she added a little unnecessary. Amanda was good at potions, and was researching more potions, ones that weren't in the books provided in the Hogwarts Library.
Mandy wanted to be a potions mistress when she grew up.In her little dream, she would buy herself a shop and set up an apothecary, which would sell ingredients and finished potions. Amanda scanned the page, reading the theory of the potion and the effect, but left the instructions. Was no use to her, to learn a potion without the ingredients in front of her. She turned the corner of the page, noting the potion. "So, what brought you out here, I think its obvious I'm out here to study" she asked with a slightly wry grin.

Melody watched as Amanda put her cut finger in her mouth. Paper cuts were horrible, they stung and never left until the cut was completely healed. Mel knew that with her anemia, paper cuts were brutal, as if being hit with an axe to the finger. Mel rushed her hand down into her pocket and pulled out what she always had: Bandaids and candy. She handed over a bandage to Amanda and offered a chocolate flavored mint to get the horrible, iron taste out of the girl's mouth. "I always have it on hand." She explained why she had the band aid and candy in her pocket. Mel popped a mint of her own into her mouth. So Amanda was a 5th year. Mel could tell, it was obvious who was a first year and a 7th year, their attitudes were so contrastly different. However, between 3rd, 4th, and 5th, years it was hard to tell which was which. But the girl wasn't short enough to be a 3rd year, and the potions book was more advanced than the 4th year books she had seen. "I enjoy potions as well, but I'm better at transfiguration and charms." Mel offered a trade in information. "I would be studying for Charms, but our testing doesn't begin for another 2 weeks, and I finished the work for the next class." Melody wasn't exactly a nerd, but she knew to do well and be a good wizard, she had to keep up with her studies, which included doing homework well ahead of time. But when the girl asked her what she was doing out here, Melody looked to the water and pursed her lips to a thin line for a moment. What was she doing out here? "I'm just relaxing, finding something to do with the endless time that is christmas break. My room mates have finally left for their vacation and now I have nothing to do but sit on the beach." She shrugged. Outfit

Amanda grinned, and placed the bandage on the small cut. She felt there was no point in her, ruining her book with a little blood. After doing so, she took the mint from Mel and offered her thanks. "Must come in pretty handy sometimes" she said with a shrug of her shoulders, and placed the mint into her mouth. Mints did taste better than blood. Amanda wasn't a vampire.
"Potions is awesome" Amanda exclaimed, voicing her love for the subject. "Transfigurations and Charms are good subjects, pretty useful ones as well" Amanda spoke thoughtfully, Amanda was alright at most subjects, she wouldn't say good. But she knew she was good at Potions. It was her talent. "I think ancient runes could be useful for spell casting and all, but I haven't really seen the importance of Arithmancy and Divinations" Amanda said pursing her lips. Her mother wouldn't be happy about her, degrading Proffessor Drayton's brilliant subject. She had to fight with herself to not roll her eyes at the thought.
"I wish I could go home for christmas, as pretty as it is here. It just isnt home" Amanda spoke longingly. "My room-mates have left" Amanda grinned, and mentally added, all but one"Sitting on the beach is pretty amazing, even if it is cold" she said her tone amused. Amanda pulled her book open again, and memorised another potion, reading over it several times, then trying to remember it off hand. When it worked, Amanda smirked at herself with a proud look. Amanda didn't know what her mother would think of her dream to be a potion mistress. But Amanda didn't care, if Esmerelda didn't love Amanda, then Amanda couldn't be bothered to care about what her mother thought of her.
