Through a slit between the bedroom curtains the sun streamed down across Lily’s face. Her tangled locks fanned out over her eyes and caused the light to become almost fiery to her vision. This caused a groan to escape as she tried to pull her quilt up to block out the burning light but by then she found that she could not go back to sleep. Her dark eyes opened slowly to the bright patterns of her blanket and for a few moments she let herself hide away from the world. After all, she wasn’t scheduled to go into work today and from the sounds of it she was the only one left in the house. Lily breathed in a ready sigh before she finally convinced herself to get out from the comfort of her slumber. As she picked up her wand and began to dress Lily’s thoughts wandered. Who would have thought she would have found such a unique family life with Severus? ‘Who would have thought that a Potter and a Snape could be related?’ She suddenly asked herself, thinking of her two children, and felt a small smile invade her lips. Still, Lily had always wanted to be a mother and honestly would not trade anything when it came to her son and daughter.
Once dressed the ruby haired witch exited the bedroom and glanced around their London home. An un-nerving silence crept over her and reminded her of the school year- despite it being June. With Harry and Drucilla being of Hogwart age and Severus being the Headmaster, Lily often spent the better part of the year alone. However, by now she had grown use to the extra time of being a mother to two teenagers and only waved her hand at the silence. Lily was not one to waste away in the dark so instead she stepped outside to the garden, book in hand, and sat among the flowers. The morning was unusually dry but the air was cool and they sky was clear as she read through her copy of ‘Illyria’s Book of Lost Runes’. In fact, Lily had found herself growing so comfortable beside the Bleeding Hearts that time had seemed to slip by her completely. With a flash of dark cloak Severus had managed to bring her back into the living world and caused her to check the time. “Oh goodness” She muttered once she realized that she had been out there for hours. Her green eyes glanced up then to meet the dark ones of Severus and she laughed when she saw his criticism at her bookish behavior. Shut it, Sev” She teased him as he helped her stand from her position on the ground.
”I thought that Harry and Drucilla were with you…?” She questioned as they walked back into the house but when he told her that they hadn’t been Lily worried. Severus reassured her but ever since the first war she had always been a little more on edge when it came to her children. However, they didn’t have to wait long though before she heard their familiar voices in the front yard and felt the tightness in her chest release its grip. Placing her book on the counter Lily felt a sense of serenity flow through her and she smiled as she asked ”I’ll start lunch, shall I?”
If my slight muse do please these curious days,
The pain be mine, but thine shall be the praise
