Wizards' Council is the governing body of the magical community of Britain. The Council consists of 12 members, the most powerful and most respected members of the British wizarding community, and its head is the Council Chief. Current Council Chief is Lord William Black (father of Rowena Ravenclaw).
Quidditch
The most popular game amongst wizards and witches, Quidditch, didn't exist in the 10th century. However, the sport evolved from numerous archaic broom games, popular in local areas where they were played. This includes Irish game of Aingingein (which required broomstick-mounted players to fly through a number of burning barrels set in the air, whilst all the time clutching a ball with one hand), the dangerous Scottish game of Creaothceann (with players flying on a broomstick with a cauldron strapped on their head, catching enchanted rocks into their cauldrons), Shuntbumps ( with players trying to knock as many other players off their broomsticks as possible) or Swivenhodge (rather like tennis on a broom, this involves hitting an inflated pig's bladder backwards and forwards across a hedge).
Magical Creatures
Centuries ago, groups of Celtic and Greek wizards allied with Magical Creatures in order to study their powers and use their magic to enhance their own powers. In return, some Magical Creatures (including Veelas, vampires and werewolves) have since been allowed to carry and use a wand, previously used only by witches and wizards. House elves, centaurs and other magical species are not allowed to use wands.
The Deathly Hallows
The Deathly Hallows are three highly powerful magical objects supposedly created by Death and given to each of three brothers in the Peverell family. They consist of the Elder Wand, an immensely powerful wand, considered undefeatable; the Resurrection Stone, a stone with the power to summon the spirits of the dead, and the Cloak of Invisibility, which, as its name suggests, renders the user completely invisible. Hogwarts Headmaster Melkor Alphard Valenceus is the current master of the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone is owned by a French family and the whereabouts of the Cloak remain unknown.
Gringotts Bank
Gringotts Wizarding Bank, founded by a goblin Gringott, is owned and operated by goblins. Its main office is located in Diagon Alley, where British witches and wizards store their money and other valuables, in heavily-guarded vaults miles below ground. The building itself doesn't even resemble its modern counterpart, being smaller and less decorated.
