Everyone knew that Merida's favourite part of the day was having meals in the Great Hall nestled between Rowena and Helga; and sometimes even on Godric's lap... but never close to Salazar. Ida avoided the snake Founder at all coasts, thankfully, he did not seem to give her much importance anyway. Hogwarts' students intrigued her - Merida enjoyed watching them eat and perform magic at the same time. Part of her envied them. They could attend classes, have wands and they had real families.
However today and for many days to come, Merida was confined to the kitchen with only Governess Beitris Caitrìona Ruyerfurd for company. Earlier that morning she had behaved mischievously in the library, refusing to keep quiet or do as told. Unfortunately for Ida, her Governess believed that as part of her punishment she should eat alone. To remind you of what a naughty girl you are, Beitris had said. Merida had been so upset that Beitris was forced to physically carry the girl to the kitchen.
"Merida," Beitris warned when she noticed the girl slouched against the counter and starting to swing her feet.
"Sit straight... That's a good lass."
The girl opened her mouth to reply but was interrupted by Hannah Hufflepuff, "Governess Ruyerford? Professor Hufflepuff wishes to see you in her office."
Beitris hesitated. She turned to look at Merida and regarded her for what seemed like an eternity. You be good while I am gone, aye Merida? the Governess intoned. Ida shrugged and in response stuffed broccoli in her mouth, which was promptly spat out as soon as Beitris left. Anni chuckled and ruffled Merida's hair before slipping some chocolate in front of her. The girl's eyes lit up and she stared up at Hufflepuff student. She did not care what she overheard - Hannah was as nice as Helga.
A few moments later Anni had to leave and Merida was left alone...

Orlando made his way across the Hufflepuff Common Room. He thought about going up to the Great Hall, but he had homework to do. He wouldn't be able to get on with it there. So he chose to make his way into the kitchen, homework in hand. It would be quieter in the kitchen, and he could work while he ate. He passed the young Hufflepuff girl on the way. Anna? No she was Hannah. He should know. He was the prefect after all.
The young man opened the kitchen door, and before stepping through the doorway, lifted his bag up so it was resting on his shoulder again. He walked past Merida, and cast a quick glance her way, and then stopped. Shouldn't she be up in the Great Hall? He smiled at the young girl. Orlando happened to love children. He wanted to have his own... when he was a littler older. He hoped that Rosalind would be his child's or children's mother, but that was a little presumptuous.
“Why are you here... alone?” he asked, frowning. Surely a young child shouldn't be left alone. He sat down on a stool nearby. Before he spoke again, he turned to one of the house elves cooking, and asked for some chicken and a selection of vegetables to eat. “Shouldn't your governess be with you?” he asked, while he looked at the clear surface before him, he opened his bag and pulled the essay and texts books out, along with a quill and ink. He placed them down, before looking back at Merida.

The chocolate Hannah had given her was simply delicious; Merida could hardly remember the last time she was allowed to eat some. Chocolate always gave her excessive energy and as such her governess had banned it. Knowing this bar was a forbidden fruit made it taste even better. The kitchen door opening and the sound of approaching footsteps startled her. Wide eyed Merida hid the chocolate behind her back, disregarded the fact that around her mouth was smeared with the yummy goodness. When she spotted Orlando her posture relaxed and she resumed munching her chocolate.
Pouting at the questions Merida said, "Governess said I am too naughty to eat with everyone else."
The child then started giggling - almost choking on the chocolate - and added, "Hannah rid her for me for a little while."
"What are you doing here?" Merida questioned the boy while reaching for one of his books. She held it upside down and opened it, pretending to read its content.

Orlando smiled brightly at Merida. “Oh dear, what did you do?” he asked chuckling. “Besides, you aren't alone now,” he added, though he wasn't sure the child would appreciate his company, He shifted the chair he was sat on, closer, ignoring the parchment and quill on the surface which he was supposed to be using to do his homework.
“That was nice of her to do” he said, giggling with the girl. He giggled despite the fact that giggling was rather girly for an 17 year old boy. “I'm doing my work” he smiled, he didn't react when she took the book, and only laughed when he saw it was indeed upside down. He reached out, and plucked the book up, then turned it the right way up before offering it too her again.
“Homework is very boring” he commented as he stared back at the parchment, “You like your chocolate hmm?” he asked, looking at her as she munched on the treat.
