Nefertiti walked with her wand lit. The staircases would have been treacherous in complete darkness. She was disappointed that a walk through the dungeons had not turned up any wandering Slytherins. And so she had decided to patrol the rest of the school in the hopes that a Gryffindor was brave enough to leave their bed. Known for being incredibly strict, perhaps the Slytherin students had got wise to her turn at patrolling the halls.
Nefertiti was just making her way down the corridor toward the library when she heard the library door itself open and close. Unfortunately, her lumos spell had not been strong enough to cast light that far. She approached with a swift stride. She almost licked her lips at the possibility of chastising another wayward student. She did not care about reforming their behaviour in the least. She just liked the way they protested greater and greater punishments. Nefertiti had come to despise the quieter ones and punish them more harshly for smaller crimes.
Nefertiti got to the library doors and threw one side open with one hand. She aimed her wand ahead threateningly. She saw a figure approaching the bookshelves ahead and shot a rope from her wand that bound the perpetrator around the waist. "It is after curfew! I will have you flogged if you try to escape me!"

The only sound filling the room was constant ticking of the old clock, placed high on the wall. Rowena was sitting at her writing desk, wearing only a dark blue nightgown and cosy slippers. She had spent the last couple of hours sitting in her office and reading a book. Her dark eyes flew from one corner of the page to another, going through the long passages with remarkable speed. Rowena reached the bottom of the page and realised that she needed another book. A quick glance toward her bookshelves convinced her that a small stroll to the library was needed. An annoyed sigh escaped her pink lips as she stood up and took her dressing-gown. Rowena took her wand from its usual place on her desk and lit it before she left the room.
The corridors were silent and there was nothing but darkness that surrounded the dark-haired witch as she walked toward the library. All of the four founders had picked the location of their offices on their own. So naturally, Salazar's was in the dungeons, Helga's was near the kitchen and Rowena's was next to the library. It would usually take her less than a minute to reach the library, where she could continue her research. Rowena got to the door and opened it with a swift movement of her wand. She entered the empty room and hurried toward the shelf she needed (Rowena had come to know the location of nearly every book, almost as though she were the school's librarian).
Suddenly, a rope appeared around Rowena's thin waist and she screamed out of shock and fear. She dropped her wand and it rolled away. The witch turned toward her attacker, narrowing her eyes in order to see who they were. There wasn't enough light, so she still didn't know who she was dealing with. "What is the meaning of this?" she asked in her most dangerous voice, frowning towards her unknown attacker.

Lostris heard the unmistakable sound of a wand clattering against the floor. She had heard the sound over many different floors while in the company of Eliphas. Though she had never heard his own wand. The scream told Lostris that she was dealing with a female. When she heard Rowena's voice responding in the dark, Lostris nearly released her captive. Instead she froze for a moment, unsure of how she should react. She knew she should let the Founder free but the desire to humiliate her further was still there.
"You are being reprimanded for your insolence. The Decree of the Headmaster strictly forbids Library visitors while our registered librarian is not on duty." Lostris could not suppress a grin. She silently wondered if she could get away with torturing the Founder a little. But she quickly dismissed the idea. Lostris's other hand rose and the nearby lanterns flickered three times before finally lighting.
Lostris feigned surprise when she saw Rowena standing there. She put a hand to her mouth and gasped dramatically. After a moment of watching, secretly entertained, Lostris lifted the spell and the ropes unraveled themselves. "I apologize, madam. I thought that you might be a student." A short chuckle escaped Lostris' lips but she faked a cough to cover it up. "Do you always study this late, dear?"

Rowena clenched her teeth, fighting with the enchanted rope. She could not do anything without her wand, though. Then she heard the voice of the woman who had captivated her and bit her lip nervously. It was Neferti... no, Lostris Naja, her - Rowena almost let out a loud gasp at the realisation - her step-daughter. It was their somewhat strange relationship that made Rowena nervous, for she had no idea what Lostris would do; if she would let her free or keep her tied to humiliate her.
"Of course I know what the Decree of the Headmaster forbids! I helped write it!" Rowena yelled, utterly annoyed. She couldn't shake the feeling that the other woman was teasing her on purpose. "Now let go of me!" Rowena had to blink a couple of times, allowing her eyes adjust to sudden light. Through her narrowed eyes she could see Lostris approach her.
The Founder could feel her tiny body filling with anger. Lostris was such a good actress, Alfie had taught her well. Rowena had guessed that the other witch would not like her particularly, because she didn't like Alfie, either. She couldn't be blamed, though; Rowena had virtually taken her mother's place and she must have been troubled by that.
A small sigh of relief escaped Rowena's lips, when the ropes disappeared and Lostris set her free. The older witch was trying to be polite, even though she was upset. "It is alright, you were merely doing your job as a professor of this school." Rowena raised an eyebrow at Lostris' strange cough. "Yes, whenever I feel the need. The time is of such small significance when one wanders the paths of knowledge." Rowena answered with a small smug smile.

Lostris grinned at having been able to upset Rowena. She did not hate the older witch however, she was merely insulted by the idea that she could even be considered her equal much less her superior. Lostris cared very little of what Alfie decided to do with himself. She had always considered him as unworthy of her mother anyway. In spite of that, she held a respect for him because of his reputation.
"Are you hurt, Madame?" Lostris bounded forward and transferred a small makeup kit from her pelt robe's pocket to Rowena's hand. "Here. This should cover any marks well enough. Our complexion is rather similar." Lostris had to admit that Rowena did look an awful lot like her mother.
Lostris took a step back and smiled sweetly at Rowena. "Mother always said a strict sleep schedule kept ugliness away. But I've never had much use for her advice to be honest. She was the sort of woman that didn't know what she wanted. That is what my father would always say." Lostris inclined her head to the left and grinned more warmly. "Are you still angry with me?"

Rowena arched an eyebrow, reacting to Lostris' grin. She had to do her best to stay calm and not allow herself get even more upset. So, she took a deep breath. Then she took another deep breath, finally managing a smile. "No, I am fine." she answered with a sigh. "As I've said, you were merely doing your job." Rowena's dark eyes widened in shock when Lostris put a small makeup kit in her hand. "Thank you. That is very kind of you." Rowena said, utterly confused. She smile broadly at the younger witch. The Founder cast a quick glance at Lostris's face, realising that she was right; they had quite similar complexion. "You are right." she answered. "I haven't noticed it before." Rowena was wondering if she looked like Lostris's mother, Alfie's first wife.
Rowena nodded her head, wondering what Lostris was aiming at. "Well, I guess that strict sleep schedule isn't possible if you live and work in Hogwarts." Rowena shrugged. Then she gave the younger witch a small smile. "I see." she said. It was always hard for Rowena to talk about Alfie's first wife, because she had never met the woman. And she most certainly didn't want Lostris or anyone else to come to a conclusion that Rowena though ill of the woman. Well, Rowena Ravenclaw was a woman who knew what she wanted. "Don't worry, there is no reason for me to be angry with you." she reassured her with a warm smile.

Lostris had always found it easy to lie. As a priestess and chieftain's daughter, she had performed in pageants since she was a small girl. Alfie had brought up a thing or two about interacting with Rowena; Lostris was well aware he did not expect the two to get along. As much as she hated to admit, she had to agree with him for once. Almost everything about Rowena irritated Lostris, likely because she was so obviously Lostris' superior in every regard. Despite her pure loathing for the woman, her sweet grin remained. She made a quiet gasp of relief when Rowena said she was fine. She was regretting not having pulled the rope tauter instantly. She forced a nervous giggle when Rowena excused her actions for her.
"I've never had much use for sleep. Mother was a fool, really. Not at all clever or likeable. Got herself blown up going off with that- Uhm. With Alfie." Lostris stopped herself from berating her own mother's judgement in choosing Alfie over her father. Though if she had to be honest, her father wasn't much compared to Alfie. "That is good. I would not want to be on the bad side of someone with your reputation. Its a problem my family has had for centuries; keeping the ignorant masses from destroying themselves and everything around them. And its a thankless, tiring job. Especially when they are so insusceptible to learning their lessons. That is why, I wonder; do you think I could give troublesome students a little rap on the wrists? Perhaps a cruciatus for those who put others or themselves in danger?"

Rowena was doing her best to remain calm and behave as though nothing had happened. She wanted to be polite to Lostris, not only because she was Alfie's step-daughter and thus member of Rowena's family, but also because she wanted to avoid any potential conflicts with fellow staff members. Rowena could sense Lostris' immense hatred towards her, simply because she'd expected it. However, Lostris was playing her role perfectly and someone else would have guessed that she was genuinely kind to Rowena. Well, she had to be very very careful with the girl.
Rowena was staring at Lostris; Alfie rarely talked about his wife, but Rowena had come to a conclusion that she was brilliant, very beautiful and powerful witch. Hearing Lostris say so many awful things about her left Rowena speechless. Rowena narrowed her eyes when she realised what Lostris was actually saying. The younger witch considered Alfie unworthy of her mother. That was probably how Helena felt too.
"You are saying that as though I am Salazar." Rowena replied with a small frown. Then she tried to force a laugh. "Don't worry, I have been told that I am neither vindictive nor cruel." Rowena nodded her head. "Well, it is always hard to be different or special in any way." she said with a small shrug. Rowena took a deep shocked breath. "I am sure that you have noticed that all four of us have different opinions on certain things. I think, and most of the others agree with me, that we shouldn't use magic to punish our students. Especially not the Cruciatus curse. There are different ways to teach them a lesson." Rowena conveniently didn't say anything about Salazar and his opinion.
