Mona thrust the stone tool deep into the soil so that only its handle was still above the dark, rich earth. In another breath, she pulled the tool and the young Devil's Snare with it. Mona placed the small plant into a hole she had dug for it earlier and pushed the soil around its roots firmly.
Mona lifted her tool off of the ground and positioned her wand over it with her other hand. With a soft whisper, "Aguamenti," a clear jet of water washed over the stone tool and the dirt was wiped from it instantly. She then directed the stream to her lovely plant bed as she placed the tool upon the cobble stone floor beneath her.
She could still hear the voices of the two men behind her. The obviously much older voice was that of her husband. The other was more stranger to her, though she was related to him still. The former, Lucius Malfoy. Latter being their nephew, Brutus Malfoy. Mona and her sister had married two brothers, so she and her husband were both related to the boy through his parents. Though that was not how Mona would have desired her relations to work out, it had always been out of her hands.
With a small sigh, Mona stood up and followed the voices. Even as she was walking though, a deathly silence took the air. She paused in her tracks staring at the door to the back of her own home silently. Gingerly, she took three steps toward the door. She covered her mouth as she noticed that Lucius lay upon the floor. After the moment of shock, she walked over to him throwing caution to the wind. Mona knelt down beside him and took his wrist in her hands. She could still feel his blood rushing through his arteries. Though she was too panicked to realize if it was weakening or not. She did not see any wound as she looked his motionless body over.
Mona bent over Lucius and placed her wand at his chest, deciding it couldn't hurt to try to counter some basic stunning curses. It was only then that she heard the fall of feet onto wood from behind her. With a scream, Mona tried to stand up and bolt out the door she had come into at the same time. She was stopped short of either as two arms held her in place. One arm wrapped around her neck and another around her waist. The arm grasping her neck tightened until it stopped Mona's breathing. With her arms, Mona beat at the assaillant. His grasp almost slipped due to her efforts. He whispered into her ear softly, "For my mother."
Mona felt his grip loosen suddenly, he gurgled as if choking. She pushed herself free of him and stood back. The necklace she had been wearing had come off from her own neck. It was wrapped around Brutus' arm and neck seeming to have grown at least four times its usual length. The stupid boy tried to fight it as best he could though it only gripped his life tighter as he did. Mona looked away as he slowly suffocated to death on her dining room floor.
