Dusk fell slowly; Castor watched as his father's horse sped away down the road. They had of course, said their goodbyes. Though Castor was still quite upset. With his head down, he turned and went into his father's stable. The other horses greeted him in their usual ways. Castor's favorite was a large Clydesdale. He had ridden it before, but only under the supervision of his father.
With a glance out into the direction his father had ridden, Castor suppressed a cry though tears streamed from his eyes quickly. He approached his favorite horse and with his head on the top of the fencing, admired its grey coat. He began to wonder what it would be like to ride through the evening like his father did.
Castor unlatched the door to the pen and went inside slowly. He made a choking sob and then climbed one side of the fence and hopped up onto the horses' back. The horse went forward on its own, trotting out of the stable slowly. Castor gripped it by the mane and began to bark orders at it loudly.
A lightning bolt struck a nearby tree and the boom of thunder startled both the boy and his steed. Castor released his grip and the grey horse sprinted from under him instantly. He was thrown off the back of the horse and landed next to a tree unto his front. Castor tried to move but his body refused to heed him for a moment. Then suddenly he crawled to the tree's trunk and sat down with his back against it. He curled up under the tree, tucking his legs under his arms and putting his head down onto his knees as rain began to pour slowly at first.
