It was already past ten at night and to Andromeda Black’s annoyance, the common room was still bustling with students mostly fifth and seventh years. Meda wondered if they were studying for their OWLs and NEWTs respectively. Her eyes lingered on a group of notorious student. Dromeda was surprised not to see her sister’s face amidst them. Pushing the thought aside, she bent down over the table and resumed her writing. The essay wasn’t due in two weeks, however, since it was for Potions Andromeda decided to start working on it right away. Potions were her passion. In fact she was quite good at brewing them and to her delight; the professor constantly praised her work. Andromeda enjoyed Hogwarts and she always put soul and heart in her assignments, unlike her older sibling. What intrigued Meda the most was the fact that their parents never reprimanded Bellatrix for her lack of interest. On the other hand, if she made the smallest of mistakes they would instantly jump to her throat. Andromeda no longer minded. She was accustomed to their ways. Mother clearly preferred Bellatrix while father had a soft spot for Narcissa. Andromeda paused and straightened her back. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath while willing her family out of her head. She needed to concentrate on her work.
For the following hour Dromeda worked tirelessly while the other students gathered their belongings and headed to their respective beds. The only sounds in the common room where Meda’s regular breathing, the scratching of her quill on her parchment, the shuffling of papers as she checked for facts from her book and the ticking sound of a clock. When the clock chimed midnight, Andromeda jumped in her seat and spilled her ink all over the table. With a groan, she quickly picked up her essay before cleaning the table with a simple spell. Seconds later, an owl flew threw the open window and landed on Dromeda’s shoulder. It dropped a letter in her lap and started nipping her ear affectionately. Andromeda was oblivious to this and she completely ignored the owl. Her attention was focused on the letter. Grinning she picked up the letter and held it her to her chest, feeling the excitement built up inside her. “Oh Ted,” she sighed softly to herself as she ripped the envelope open. Andromeda read quickly through the parchment and she squealed with delight. She picked up a fresh paper and scribbled in her neat hand writing. “I will be there in half an hour.” She folded the parchment in four and handed it to the owl, who immediately took flight.
Andromeda sprang to her feet and quickly stuffed her things inside her bag. She sprinted upstairs and dumped her bag on her bed. Meda froze into place when one of her roommates started muttering something in her sleep. Clutching one hand to her chest, she sighed to herself and tip toed towards her trunk. Andromeda rummaged through it for several minutes before finding what she had been looking for. She slid out of her school robes and less than ten minutes later she was draped in a black white fitting jeans and a flannel t shirt. She pulled her loose hair into a tight ponytail and passed her fingers through her fringe. When she was satisfied with the overall effect of her clothes, she pocketed her wand, applied a trace of make up and slipped into a pair of sneakers. The latter might not have been her favourite choice, but Teddy liked it when she looked more down to earth. Andromeda fastened a black silk cloak around her neck and pulled up the hood as she hurried down the stairs.
The sixth year stopped in her tracks outside the Slytherin common room with a frown. All of a sudden, it hit her how irresponsibly she was acting. On the other hand, she could only enjoy time with Teddy at night. Theodore Tonks was a muggleborn wizard. Her family would never approve of him. Her parents expected her to bring someone like Rodolphus Lestrange home. Meda shuddered at the thought of her sister’s fiancé. She didn’t like him the leastest. Taking a deep breath, Andromeda started making her way carefully towards the Ground Floor. She almost got caught twice, but the thought of seeing Ted gave her the courage to proceed. Soon enough she was standing in front of the oak doors muttering the spell that would unlock them. With difficulty she pushed them open and erupted outside. She closed her eyes and spread her arm wide as the cool air whipped against her skin. Andromeda pulled back her hood and hurried towards the Black Lake. And there, leaning casually and handsomely was Theodore. As soon as he saw her coming, his smile widened making his dimple more prominent than ever. Andromeda increased her pace and threw herself into his awaiting arms.
Teddy chuckled goodheartedly and lifted her from the ground. As soon as they got over the initial excitement, they perched themselves at the foot of their favourite tree. Teddy wrapped his arms around Andromeda and pulled her closer to him. She rested her head on his shoulder as they started chatting. One of the things that Andromeda appreciated about her relationship with Ted was the communication. Unlike her previous boyfriends, he was not only interested in snogging. Andromeda started telling him about the letter she had received from her parents that morning. She was fuming and firing insults at Bellatrix, convinced that she was ratting on her. Teddy placed a finger on her lips and she paused in mid word. She looked up at him and met his eyes. Theodore leaned forwards and gently kissed her neck. A shiver ran down Andromeda’s spine and she closed her eyes. Ted pressed his mouth to her ear and whispered, “I would rather not talk about your charming sister. Even though you look sexy when you’re angry.”
Andromeda giggled like a thirteen year old and punched him playfully while Ted enveloped her in a hug and kissed her softly. The minutes melted away and the next time they glanced at the watch it was already two in the morning. Meda looked up at her boyfriend with a pout and said, “I do not want to leave.” He caressed her cheek and replied, “We can stay as long as you want.” Theodore leaned down to kiss her but Andromeda placed a firm hand on his chest. She was looking slightly panicked and was peering over his shoulder. Andromeda crushed her body against Ted’s and whispered urgently, “It’s Bellatrix.” Theodore turned around with narrowed eyes, just in time to see Bella disappear in the forest. He stood up, grabbed Meda’s hand and pulled her to her feet. Knowing how much it meant for Dromeda to keep them a secret he said, “We should head back.” But Andromeda pulled away from him and replied with an odd detachment, “You go.” He started protesting it but Andromeda assured him she would be fine. Although he wasnt convinced, he left hoping she wouldn’t do anything foolish.
When Theodore was out of sight, Andromeda rearranged her cloak and followed Bella’s path. She knew where her sister was heading. What Meda didn’t know was why she was following her. She pulled out her wand and plunged in the green sea of bushes. It took her a while to reach the Slytherin haven. She hid behind a large tree and sure enough Bellatrix was there. Her sister was motionless and her eyes were glazed. All of a sudden, the sound of her laughter echoed through the trees. As she started speaking to herself, Andromeda involuntarily moved backwards and stepped on a twig. She cursed herself and tried easing her heart rate while Bellatrix inquired who it was. As soon as she heard the word coward, Andromeda stiffened. She pulled out her wand and strolled casually in the clearing, her eyes narrowed and fixed on her sister. “It’s only me Bella,” she said frostily.
