Shortly after her morning lesson, Helga went downstairs to the kitchen and started working on lunch for the students. Cooking was her passion and she especially loved feeding all the students and professors, even though she knew that with more students attending the school she would need to hire some help. Helga made a mental thought to mention that to the others founders. She wanted to employ house-elves, but she had the feeling some of her colleagues would not be happy about that. Helga stood in the middle of the kitchen and started turning on the spot while waving her wand around. The utensils sprang to life and within seconds they started working on the food.
An aromatic smell filled the kitchen and Helga bent double fighting off waves of nausea, her free hand covering her face.Helga felt like she was about to gag. She had been feeling like this for the past two weeks. She struggled to finish the food and after a never ending thirty minutes she was finally done. Helga arranged the food on the tables in the kitchen and enchanted them to keep warm while she went for a lie down. She pushed the door open to her quarters and hurried towards her bedstand. Helga pulled the drawer open and took out a packet of tablets. She popped one into her mouth and lied back on her bed with a wet cloth across her forehead.

The morning lessons were over and Rowena walked out of her classroom and down the hallway, moving past some Gryffindor students. It was almost breakfast time, but she wasn't really hungry and didn't feel like sitting in the crowded Great Hall. Rowena was wondering if Helga had already finished making the meals, so she went downstairs to look for her. Rowena slowly walked towards her friend's office and stopped just a few inches away from the door. She gently knocked on the door, but nobody answered, so she opened the door herself.
Rowena walked inside the room and closed the door behind her. "Helga?" she called, but there was no answer. The door leading to her friend's bedroom was opened and Rowena looked inside, only to see Helga lying on the bed with a cloth on her forehead. "Oh, dear, what happened?" Rowena asked worriedly and sat on the bed next to her friend.

Helga had drifted off into a restless sleep when Rowena stepped inside her room. Her head lolled to the side when she heard her name being called and her eye lids fluttered open. She focused her gaze on Rowena and smiled tiredly at her. Helga pushed herself into a sitting position and gently touched her fingers to her mouth. "Tiredness my friend," she said softly. Helga attempted another smile and began, "Nothing to be wo..." The words were barely out of her mouth when Helga collapsed to the floor and pulled a small basin towards her. She bent over it and gagged quietly, her shoulders heaving from the effort of exerting. Helga reached for a towel and wiped her mouth. She looked up at Rowena in silence.

Rowena looked at Helga gently and worriedly. Her friend looked tired and exhausted and Rowena couldn't help but wonder what was going on with her. Tiredness didn't seem to be the only reason for her condition. Rowena jumped on her feet when Helga fell on the floor. After some time in silence, Rowena moved closer and helped her friend up. She just looked at her with a small frown, biting her lower lip. "Have you eaten something bad?" she asked gently touching her friend's forehead with her palm. "I think you're having a fever. Have you taken some medicine?"

Helga pushed the basin away and tried standing up. She was grateful when Rowena moved closer and helped her up. Helga pushed her curls from her face and thanked her friend while she sat down on the edge of the bed. She sighed at the question and shook her head slowly. "I don't think it's that..." she paused and blushed scarlet. Helga stared down in her lap while Rowena checked her forehead. She nodded absentmindedly and pointed at the box on her bed side table. Helga took Rowena's hands into hers and looked deep in her eyes. "I only feel this bad in the mornings. What does it mean Rowena?" Deep down, Helga knew perfectly well what it meant but she was not ready to admit to herself.

Rowena sat on the edge of the bed with Helga. She looked at her friend with a frown on her pretty face and couldn't realize why her friend had suddenly blushed. Then a look of pure shock appeared on her face. It was only once, over sixteen years ago, that Rowena felt that way, with morning sickness and fever. A small shocked smile appeared on her face. "Maybe you're... pregnant?"

"Merlin forbid," exclaimed Helga at Rowena's words. She untangled her hands from her friend's and gently placed them on her womb while saying, "That would be most unacceptable. Unmarried and pregnant. My family would never forgive me such deeds." Helga stared down at her stomach and continued, "Whatever shall I do Rowena?" Her thoughts wondered to Cornictacus and how he would react to the news.

"It doesn't have to mean that you are pregnant, it was only my guess." said Rowena in weak voice. She never meant to upset her friend, so she just lowered her head and looked at the carpet on the floor. Rowena just nodded her head at Helga's words and whispered "You may be surprised with the things your family will forgive you." She touched the laced hem of her dress and remained silent for some time, before finally answering with another question. "Have you spoken to Cornictacus?"

Helga relaxed and pulled the pillow from underneath herself. She hugged it tightly to her chest and said, "I am confident you are right Rowena. It is probably some sort of illness." Helga nodded absentmindedly, knowing that Rowena was right although her father could be very stubborn and traditional. Helga stiffened at the mention of her fiance and hid behind the pillow she was holding. She peered from behind it and said, "I think it would be best not to alarm him before I know what is going on."

Rowena nodded her head again. "You are probably just ill. Salazar can make some potion to make you feel better." she said and sighed. Whatever Helga thought, Rowena was certain that her friend was pregnant. When Helga hid behind the pillow, Rowena just had to laugh. "You don't have to tell him anything about this, just go talk to him." Rowena smiled at Helga and teasingly pulled the pillow in her hands.

Helga pursed her lips at the offer of having Salazar brew something for her. She shook her head and replied, "Perhaps it is time I visit the matron. Monsieur Slytherin is very dear to me, however, it is my believe that she is more skilled than he is when it comes to healing." Helga felt the pillow being pulled out of her grasp. She remained with her arms encircling thin air for a couple of seconds before breaking into a soft giggle. When she had calmed down, Helga reached for Rowena's face and asked "How are you Rowena? Has anything out of the ordinary happened to you since that unfortunate incident?"

Rowena just nodded her head "I believe that you are right, my dear." When Helga started to giggle, Rowena joined, so they laughed together for some time. Then they calmed down a bit and Rowena took a deep breath, not sure what to say. She was scared to death by the person who had attacked her, even though she would never admit that to anyone. She was scared that her attacker might come after her daughter. The worst part was that she had obviously fallen in love with a man who could never return her feelings and that she kept the secret that he owned the most powerful wand in the world, in order to keep him safe. "Well... nothing out of the ordinary... no."

It felt good to be laughing with her friend as if there was no tomorrow to worry about. She pushed her legs underneath her and leaned forwards, her eyes fixed on Rowena. Helga tilted her head to the side and questioned, "Are you sure? There is something... I cannot quite place what it is... something in your eyes that concerns me deeply."

Rowena returned Helga's gaze and took a deep breath. "Well I am just a bit shaken by that dreadful event, even though it really isn't anything to worry about. And with all that paperwork and students and..." Rowena just shook her head and lowered her eyes like a sad child. Then she took another deep breath. "And I think I have fallen in love with someone I shouldn't have fallen in love with." she whispered, nervously playing with the hem of her dress.

Rowena looked so sad and Helga had the overwhelming urge to envelope her in her arms. She moved close to her friend and hugged her tightly to herself. Helga started stroking her soft dark hair and murmuring words of comfort. "We love those we are meant to love," she commented softly. Helga pulled back and looked into Rowena's eyes while saying, "I only hope this man deserves your love. And that his feelings for you are as strong as yours for him."
