It was almost two in the morning and Auriga Black was lying down on her back near the lake staring up at the sky. She rubbed her eyes tiredly and propped herself on one elbow while shifting her gaze to the immense lake. A smile tugged in the corner of her lips and Auri giggled softly. She was very proud of being a Black, thus she liked the idea of the lake being known as the Black Lake. Her eyes were starting to droop and she struggled to stiffle a huge yawn. Auriga was feeling very exhausted but she had no desire to sleep.
For the past week, she had been having rather vivid nightmares. Auri was tired of waking up screaming in the middle of the night and finding herself covered in cold sweat. Her roommates only made things words. They were not part of her circle of friends, and Auri always thought they were jealous of her looks, brain and charm. They were now spreading the word of her nightmares and thanks to them she was being mocked by Gryffindors.
All of a sudden, Auri pushed herself into a sitting position and started fumbling with her shoe laces. She tossed her sneakers to the side and removed her socks. Auriga rolled up her pants and wadded inside the lake. As her feet made contact with the icy water, Auri shuddered and squeezed her eyes shut. It took her several long minutes to adjust to the lake's coldness, when she finally did Lily sat down on the bank and dipped a finger inside the water.

Lily was sitting on the grass, staring at the lake and admiring her own reflection. She'd always loved mirrors, enjoyed just looking at herself, the lake wasn't as good as her mirrors were, but it was good enough.
The dark water reflected the sky and small, shiny stars. Lily liked looking at the stars, even though she was never quite fond of Astronomy and she'd never managed to memorize their names. Lily took a deep breath. There wasn't a single sound, except her own breathing. She closed her eyes, just enjoying the silence, when she heard a strange sound. Lily opened her eyes and carefully looked around. It seemed that there was someone inside the water, only a few meters away from her. She couldn't see who it was, so she took her wand out and jumped on her feet, moving towards the sound.

The sound of approaching footsteps didn't seem to bother Auriga. She was arrogant enough to believe that if it was a professor, she would manage to wiggle out of a detention. Something that seemed to happen quite often. She rolled on her side and looked upwards. Her eyes narrowed when she realised it was a student holding his/her wand out. Auriga was quick to draw out her own wand and push herself into a sitting position. She held her wand high in front of her, aimed at the intruder. The moon was gibing out enough light to recognise the person up close. When she recognised the familiar face of a Slytherin, her expression relaxed and she lowered her wand.
Lily Weatherwax, she thought with distaste. Lily was a common name. Auriga would define it as mugglish. In her opinion all purebloods should have more prestigious names, like her own. As for her surname... it might sound like a wizard's but still. Being a Black, Auriga felt it was her right and duty to critise everybody else. However, she was not foolish enough to voice her thoughts... unless, the person in question got on her wrong side. Auriga smiled warmly at the girl and said pleasantly, "Ah Lily. What a pleasant surprise!" At that point, she decided to put away her wand. After a short pause she added, "It looks like I'm not the only one who can't get a decent night's sleep around here."

Lily slowly lowered her wand when she saw a familiar Slytherin face. She smiled at the girl and moved closer. "Auriga, it is a surprise, indeed. I didn't expect to see anyone outside at this hour." said Lily, with her eyes focused on Auriga's wand. When she put it away, Lily straightened her dress and sat on the grass. "Guess I just didn't feel like sleeping." she added and shrugged. She didn't need to sleep longer than a couple of hours, after all there were many other things to do.
Lily turned her eyes to Auriga. She didn't care too much for anyone in particular, but even she had to admit that the Black girl had style. Of course, she was different than Lily in so many ways. Everyone knew about the rich and powerful Black family. Even though Lily would never say it out loud, her own family was rather poor and she believed that their entire house was probably smaller than a single room in the Black family house. Lily sighed and looked at the sky. "It will be a fine day tomorrow."

Auriga's lip curled as she saw Lily's eyes focus on her wand. She gave a small nod in response and gestured around her while saying, "This has become like my happy hour. The lake is my haven." She paused and looked in the depths of the lake before adding, "I feel somewhat safe." Auri had no intention on telling Lily why the Black Lake made her feel that way. She didn't want to justify her nightmares with anyone, especially those in lower ranks than herself. What Lily seemed not to know was that Auriga always knew everything about everyone. Thanks to her father, Auriga had the gift of Legilmens. Every since starting learning it she tapped in everyone's mind, just in case they would have any useful information. Right now, Lily was comparing their wealth and Auri was sure she felt jealous. She didn't particularly care. However, she did wonder why would any respectable pureblooded family be poor. Maybe they weren't as respectable as they wanted others to think. She chuckled softly to herself before shifting her gaze back to Lily. "A perfect day for the match," she commented.

"I see." Lily listened to Auriga's words and just nodded her head. She was right, the lake gave some strange safety in the dark, it was something hard to explain. Lily blinked and turned her head to the other side, looking at the deep water. She was never good at legilimence or occlumence, mostly because she didn't feel like practicing it. However, she believed that Auriga had that gift. Lily shrugged again "Yes, it probably is." Then she turned to Auriga again. Lily was different than her fellow Slytherins. She was a pure-blood and had most of traits that Slytherin valued. However, she didn't hate muggles or muggle-borns; blood purity wasn't something that bothered her or that she was even interest in. In Lily's point of view, it was easier to use magic to manipulate those who didn't use it themselves.

Auriga leaned back on the grass and stared at the sky. Her eyes darted in Lily's direction with a look of disgust and shook her head. Her suspicions were founded, Lily was not a respectable pureblood at all. How could she tolerate lower scum? Nonetheless, she was a prefect. A prefect who was making assumptions about her. Even though she was spot on, Auriga couldn't allow her fellow students knowing about her recently acquired skills. Thus she needed to be more careful. "Does Quidditch appeal to you?" she finally asked curiously. Auriga wasn't a fan herself. Her father had always told her to appear interested, however he also said that if she ever even thought about playing he would disinherit her. Auriga knew it was an empty threat, nonetheless she did as she was told.

Lily picked up a pebble a threw it in the water. She smiled when it hit the water and made a small plunk. She thought about Auriga's words for a brief moment before answering "No, not really." Lily had never actually tried to use a broomstick, since she preferred more comfortable ways of transport or just walking. "Do you like it?" she asked, turning her face again in Auriga's direction.

Auri watched Lily throw the pebble, enjoying the different perspective from her current position. She made a soft hmm sound and added, "I see," after Lily's reply. Auriga stretched her arms in front of her, looking thoughtful. She pushed herself into a sitting position and shrugged. "I follow it," she replied truthfully. "But I do not like it much." Auri gave a soft chuckle and leaned back down on the grass.

Lily shrugged and tossed her blonde hair. "I don't understand what's so interesting in flying on a broom. It just makes one look stupid and funny." She paused and frowned slightly. "If you make a fool of yourself, people won't respect you. And if you've got no respect, you've got nothing." Lily finished and smiled.

She was actually surprised by Lily's words and Auri thought that maybe she wasn't a lost cause after all. Auriga could see hope for the girl next to her. She smiled in response and said, "Nicely put Lily." From a person like Auriga that was a highly praise. "I do not understand how boys get so excited about it. There are more interesting things to life," she commented.
