After successfully finishing a stressful day in school, the seventh year Hufllepuff was trying to get all the boring stuff, homeworks and the likes, out of the way. Having done most of them by 7:00 in the evening made her smile, until she saw her Herbology book. It was the only one left untouched and she stared at it for a while. It was the most challenging subject for her. She had a black thumb instead of a green one. Seeds she tried to plant never saw the light of any day.
It was a shame to say that she sucked at her head of the house’s course. But, after seven years of killing plants and wreaking havoc in the greenhouses, she could not really deny it anymore. Maybe it was her fear or worms that roamed the garden soil or her klutzy behavior the often resulted to broken pots and fractured plants that led to her downfall in the subject. Sighing she opened the book just to say she read it.
After a few minutes, she let out an exasperated sigh and slammed the book shut. She always got the theoretical part of Herbology. It was why she always passed the subject. But for her, it was a practical subject so she still felt incompetent. Drumming her fingers on the wooden desk, she thought of giving herself a break. She realized needed to talk to someone. Light conversations always made her feel better.

Sly was annoyed that there was this much homework to do, he was good in herbology, Charms and transfiguration but he was awful with the rest, he sighed, this was going to be a boring day, he had a lot of parchments to write, and he didn't know if he'd be able to do all of them, he sighed, walking toward the library, greatest place ever, oh yes, others would be outside having some fun, throwing snowballs while he would be in the library working his butt off on all the bloody homework. The place already seemed deserted except for one person, he didn't approach the person yet as he went to the different library section, getting some books to help him out with the homework, he eventually approached her, noticing that she was in the same house than him judging by her hufflepuff robes, he just put his books on the same table as her.
"Huh I hope you don't mind if I join you, hum is the seat taken?" Sly said, though he didn't see anyone else except for her, him and the librarian, it was pretty much her job to be present in this dull place. He sighed calmly, feeling a bit stupid with his question but he just stood still opening his book, and looking at the few paragraphs, he sighed, already he was getting a headache from all those different spells, DADA was just too hard for him, he never wants to hurt people with magic, he just uses charm and transfiguration to his advantage since he is a thief, with a good heart. He sighed.
He wasn't sitting yet, still waiting for her approval to sit, if not then he'd just let her be and find a new table, after all the place was deserted and there was plenty of other seats around, he took his quill and kept reading some passages, he started writing a few paragraphs on the stupefy spells and the more complex spells that were taught in Defense against the dark arts.

Her eyes roamed the school’s library, taking in her surroundings, from the tall bookshelves filled with dusty old books, to the wooden chairs and tables up to the floating candles that lit the place. Then, all of a sudden, everything in life seemed to get boring pretty fast. She used to say that the library was the most boring place in the world and she was right. No fun can be found in a place like it.
If boredom could kill, she would have dropped dead the moment she stepped in to the library. Why did I go here? She asked herself as she raked her fingers through her long blonde hair, sighing. Her elbow brushed the spine of her Herbology book, bringing it back to her attention. Just one year more… Her thoughts were interrupted when someone spoke. Looking up, she saw it was a Hufflepuff, probably a year or two younger than her. At the time, she could not remember his name, all she knew was that it started with an ‘s.’ His question earned him a smile from her, he just saved her from boredom. “No, I don’t mind.” She said, a little perkier than intended, moving her bag over to her side so he could have more room.
She watched him curiously as his hand flew across his parchment. The young Hufflepuff seemed serious. Maybe he did not come here to chat. Maybe he came here to study like a normal person. Craning her head a little, she saw the word ‘stupefy’ in one of the sentences in his first paragraph. “Let me guess, Defense against the dark arts homework?” She smirked.

Sly finally sat down, it was far better than standing up, as he kept looking at the books, he was bored out of his mind, he felt that being outside, robbing an evil wizard or an arrogant one was better then doing this, why did Hogwarts force them to do this, it doesn't mean they will automatically have a job in the wizarding world, more people were killed by being burned on the stake and they were the problems for the death of innocent muggles that had nothing to do with this, so what kind of jobs existed for wizards, he had no idea, but he sighed, writing more about the stupefy, he wish he was good at using it, but every wizard had a certain weakness, they couldn't be perfect in everything could they?
He put his quill down thinking about other effects the stupefy had, a strong stupefy could kill someone if it was casted by four people, was it correct he didn't remember, this much homework was giving him a headache, he listened to the other student, he wasn't sure of her name but he knew she was in Hufflepuff. "Yeah, not good in defense against the dark arts.. and doing a homework is boring me." He sighed, he was also bored just being in this place, they should give the library a trophy for the greatest place for boredom, he sighed, scratching his forehead, writing more paragraphs on that stupid spell.

When she heard him say the words homework and boring in the same sentence, she started liking the young Hufflepuff. Too bad she could not remember his name. She wracked her brain, trying to recall the names she knew that began with an ‘s.’ “Tell me about it. I could say the same for myself when it came to Herbology.” She sighed and cracked the book open again.
She tried to read, once more, the instructions she knew she would fail to follow as soon as her klutziness got the best of her. She closed the book, and the thump it made echoed in the silent library. “Sorry,” She muttered apologetically. “I just find doing homework vexing. We already worked our butts off the whole day. We deserve to enjoy life after school hours… I don’t know why our beloved teachers find it hard to grasp that fact.” She eyed the herbology book. "More than half of this is not even applicable in the real world." She muttered to herself. It was only then that she realized that the place was almost completely deserted. Of course, it was already getting late, students would prefer the common room over the library.

"I have no idea, probably want to get us ready for whatever is out there, and most of those things we learn, we won't even use." Sly said, he had his difficulties with DADA, he didn't want to hurt people with his magic, it wasn't what he wanted, he sighed a few times, unable to control his raging against the homework, he hit his head on the book a couple of times, he was tired and annoyed at this, why did they expect him to be good in DADA, he sighed closing the books. "I abandon this is just too hard, I don't wish to injure people." Sly looked back at Amelie and sighed, he shouldn't of raged like that, as he looked around again, the others were all enjoying the cold, the snowballs making some snowmen perhaps, he sighed. "Sorry for the outburst, I just don't get these, I'm not good in the homeworks nor practicing the spell."
She probably thought he was weak now but he didn't really care about it, he was good with charms and transfiguration, all he really needed for his carrier on helping the poor, the way he knew he would, he sighed calmly. Some stuff were just too difficult, he didn't know what else to do at the moment, being so bored with all the books around. "Who in their right minds would read all these books?"

Amelie nodded upon hearing his reply. Even a fifteen-year-old knew that most of what they were learning weren’t going to be applicable in the real world. That fact vexed her even more. Just then, the fifth year started banging his head on of his books. She tried to stifle her chuckles but to no avail. As stupid as it may sound, she thought her housemate looked really cute as he banged his head on his DADA book. “Relax, it’s fine. I’m a total klutz in Herbology.” She said grinning. “I destroy all plants.”
Amelie raised an eyebrow, curious. “You injured people?” She asked, finding it hard to look serious. There was something in his actions, or maybe his face, that made her smile. Probably she looked insensitive, but she was concerned and she hoped whoever was on the receiving end of his spell was not seriously injured. “Rowena Ravenclaw would.” She pointed out, wondering if their head of the house would actually read all the books in the library.

Sly listened to her, in a way happy to see that another student had trouble with a subject, he at least didn't feel alone, he just listened to her and shook his head calmly. "By merlin's beard no, I would never injure people which is why I'm bad in defense against the dark arts, I don't want to hurt people, no matter if they are good.. or bad, I just can't bring myself to use those spells." Sly heard her mentioning Rowena, he looked around, there was a lot of books, was she really able to read this much, he kept looking at them for a while, no wonder Peeves is afraid of serious books, they are everywhere, he just sighed hitting his head against his book again.
"I'll fail defense against the dark arts for sure, my brother won't be happy about it." He said, mostly to himself, he sighed, his brother was good with such spells, how come he had this much trouble he just looked away calmly, when he was in the library, he always felt that part of himself was slowly dying, he sighed he was bored and just decided to close his book. "Others are outside playing, throwing snowballs, we are inside surrounded by books, even Peeves is probably having fun pranking people."

Amelie felt stupid for actually thinking he hurt people in his Defense against the Dark Arts class. He was a good kid and that much was obvious. “Oops sorry. I thought you accidentally hurt people in your class.” She said apologetically. “Anyway, I think you need to toughen up a little. I’m not saying you should hurt people but you have to understand that DADA is taught for a reason. Especially with the events that had been happening, I think it is just right for us to learn to defend and actually defend ourselves when the time comes.” She told him empathically.
“Nah. I never heard of anyone who failed around here and I’ve been here for over six years now. Plus, I don’t think Professor Fletcher will fail anyone.” Amelie reassured him, suddenly remembering she missed the aforementioned professor’s class. “If it makes you feel better, I feel like I should have failed Herbology a long time ago. I think I’ve caused more than enough wreckage in the greenhouses to be the bearer of this school’s gold medal in instigating green house disasters.” She said casually, drumming her fingers on the cover of her Herbology book. She sighed, he was right, even the school’s resident poltergeist was having fun… “This is pathetic…” She muttered.

Sly just listened at her calmly, she was right, he did need to toughen up, with the events happening around Hogwarts, dead council members, even a dead student in one of the professors classroom, all of this was fishy and it seemed like either Salazar was protecting people or that it wasn't Slytherin students causing this. Maybe it was that DADA professor? He shook his head, it was impossible she didn't seem evil, yet she did seem a bit crazy, she didn't seem to care about anyone. All her DADA classes were rough. Though he knew Amelie was right, he just sighed calmly. "I don't know, members of the wizard council winded up dead... we are just students."
He was relieved when he heard her say that no one failed around here, it cheered him up a little, as he listened to her, he looked at her calmly, she seemed to be honest about it, he just gave her a genuine smile. "Everyone has their weaknesses, we can't be great at everything after all." Sly said, still smiling, though she was right, it was pathetic, they were probably the only students in the library, he looked again, it was definitively empty except for her, himself and the librarian, he just shrugged. "Tell me about it... it's only us in here, I don't see anyone else." He said, though was there someone in the restricted area? He doubted it. "So bored of studying and doing work for the professors."

Amelie watched him, happy that her words got him contemplating. She now knew what was hindering his progress in DADA and she could understand him well. Saying that harming others was hard was putting it lightly. She could not help but nod in agreement at what he said. “Yes, well, it’s better to die trying.” She said with a sigh, thinking about the dangerous murderer that resided in their school. “You might get lucky or something. Who knows?” She added as an afterthought, sounding very positive about it and giving the younger Hufflepuff an encouraging smile.
Amelie kept grinning at the younger student, it was apparent that he was relieved. “I know, I know. That’s why nobody’s perfect.” She said calmly, straightening on her chair. She raked her hands on her hair and sighed. Her housemate was right, besides the librarian and the two of them, no one was there. “You seem to dislike this place as much as I do so I take it you don’t hole up here often.” She commented out of the blue. “So what do you normally do when school isn’t being a buzz kill?” She raised an eyebrow at him, curious. They just met but there was something about the aura he was giving off that made her interested to know him.
