Helga shook her head and started rocking backwards and forwards. "Not this time. He has already been gone for two months." Helga then explained how she had wanted to wait after their marriage to have children, and how he tricked her into an early conception without her knowing. She told Rowena how much she feared having this child because of all the changes it would bring to her life. Helga confided in her friend that she had told her fiance she wanted to wait until her father was better before giving him the sad news. "He misunderstood. It is sad because it will bring shame to my parents." She looked away and continued, "Tonight I went to him. When he said he did not know if he wanted to come back I had the attack. He brought me here and... And after the examination the healer told us we were expecting two children." Helga buried her face in her hands and said in a muffled voice, "I was shocked because I was afraid of having to raise them on my own. And he just left, without listening me out."

Rowena listened to Helga's words, without interrupting or saying anything. She just nodded her head and sighed heavily when Helga finished. "Why didn't you tell me that he left?" she asked sadly. "It's been two months and you haven't told me..." Rowena just sighed again. She understood her friend, it was inappropriate to have a child outside wedlock, even though Rowena never thought of it as an important matter. But she was a person who didn't care too much for what the others thought of her and she kept her personal life to herself. However it was hard to hide the pregnancy. "I understand that you're afraid of having a child, it's a perfectly normal thing. I was so scared while I was pregnant, even though I wasn't alone, my husband was still alive." Rowena gently patted Helga's hand. "You'll be a perfect mother, my dear. I just know it." Rowena took a deep shocked breath when she heard that Helga was expecting twins. It was hard to be a single mother, Rowena knew it, but a single mother of two... "I am sure he'll come back to you, just give him some time."

The young founder looked at Rowena guiltily and said, "You had enough on your plate. I did not wish to worry you with my problems." Helga shook her head and said, "I promised my baby... now babies I would take care of them. However, I already failed them." Helga reached for Rowena's hand. Her eyes welled with tears and she asked, "What if he doesn't? I need him Rowena. I cannot bare to live without him."

"It doesn't matter, you should have told me. You know I'm always there for you, to help you solve the problems. Just like you're always there for me, too." Rowena smiled at Helga. "You haven't failed anyone, Helga, you're going to be a great mother. Your children are lucky to have you." she said, thinking of her daughter, who actually resented her. Rowena couldn't answer Helga's last question. It had been almost ten years since her husband's death and it was hard and painful to get used to living without him, but she never stopped loving him. "Even if he doesn't come back, you'll be the best mother your children could get. Don't worry."

"Thank you Rowena. You have always been good to me," she said softly. Helga felt guilty for not confiding in her friend. She sighed and wondered about what Rowena had just said. Helga knew she would not be a good enough mother if Cornictacus did not return to her. Tears started rolling down her cheeks and she said, "I don't want only to be a good mother. I want him. But I hurt him, I know." Helga looked away and sobbed quietly.

Rowena smiled at Helga. "You deserve it, my dear." she replied gently. Rowena looked at Helga with a sad expression on her face. "Helga... please, don't cry. You have to be strong. You're not hurting anyone, you could never do that." Rowena sighed sadly, she could understand how Helga felt. She was lonely and desperate without Cornictacus and Rowena felt like that too often, lonely, desperate and helpless. When Helga started sobbing, Rowena hugged her, trying to make her feel better.

Helga could only nod in response. As Rowena hugged her close, Helga leaned into her and buried her neck against her shoulder. She tried holding back the tears, but now that they had started it was difficult to. "I had no idea it would hurt this much. The thought never crossed my mind... I never thought he would ever leave me." Helga felt she could finally relate with Rowena's pain when she lost her husband. The feeling was very unpleasant and she wanted it to go away.

Rowena gently caressed Helga's long blonde curls. "I know how you're feeling, I know how much it hurts." Rowena took a deep breath before continuing. "When my husband died, I wanted to end my own life, I thought I couldn't live without him, I didn't want to live without him. I just wanted everything to go away, to wake up and find him there next to me, to hear his voice again, to feel his arms around me..." Rowena stopped, unable to continue, trying not to start crying. "But I had a reason to live, I had Helena, we had only built the school... I know I haven't been quite the best mother, I'm not denying that, but you're going to be better than me, you're going to be the best mother in the world." Rowena smiled at Helga, trying not to burst into tears.

Sensing her friend's distress, Helga forgot about her own and hugged Rowena tightly. She started caressing Rowena's back in comfort and said softly, "You don't have to be strong all the time. It's acceptable to let your emotions out every now and again." She paused and looked at Rowena with concern. "It helps," she stated simply. Although Rowena was right on the isse of her own motherhood, Helga did not blame her. Thus her decision not to comment

Rowena hugged Helga back, feeling a bit ashamed of herself. She was supposed to comfort her best friend, but ended up being comforted herself. She sighed sadly. "I don't have time to be weak. I have to... I have to..." Rowena stopped, uncertain of what exactly she had to. She often had the feeling that things would fall apart without her, she was in charge of everything, except her own emotions, since she just didn't have time for them. "You're probably right." she had to admit, eventually.

Helga shushed Rowena gently and continued rubbing her back soothingly. "You have the time now," she suggested softly. Having someone else to worry about, distracted her from her own issues. Helga preferred comforting her dearest friend rather than facing her own fears.

Rowena took a deep breath and tried to smile at Helga, but her smile looked as a grimace, rather than a real smile. "I guess you're right..." she whispered and nodded her head. Tears were running down Rowena's cheeks, but for the first time in her life she wasn't trying to stop them. "You are so sweet, Helga. You are such a good friend... I don't think I de-deserve you... thank you..." she managed to say between silent sobs. Rowena was always cold and distant and never showed her emotions, but she trusted Helga enough to open up to her, after all, she was her dearest, closest friend. There weren't many people who had actually seen Rowena Ravenclaw crying, it was just something she never did. Not in front of someone, at least.

"Shush. Don't be silly dear," Helga said soothingly. She hugged Rowena close to her and added, "I am always here for you. We are friends for life." Rowena was the only truly real friend she had. Helga would do anything for her and to keep her safe. She could not even imagine her life without her dear friend.

Rowena sniffed and looked at Helga. "Thank you. You're right. I don't know what I would do without you... you're my best friend. And I-I-I am such a bad person, I was supposed to help you, but it seems I'm the one who needs help." Rowena hugged Helga and held tightly to her. Helga was her only friend, the only person who truly understood her and was always there for her. Although she pretended she didn't need anyone, Rowena couldn't imagine her life without her friend.

Helga shook her head and said reassuringly, "You are not a bad person." She let out a small sigh and added solemnly, "You are hurting and it's understandable." Helga patted her friend's hand and said confidently, "We will be fine. Because no matter what happens, we will still have each other." The young founder paused and stared ahead of her while adding softly, "And our children."
