Morgana had once loved her mother but now she had been practically disowned by the elderly witch. Meggy quite reminded her of her own childhood. Morgana's mother had warned her about marrying for riches and prestige but Morgana had and still defies her. Even so, it had not been until Morgana killed her third husband, her mother's favorite nephew when they were really angry with eachother.
Morgana smiled, so sure that she could guide Meggy better than her own mother had guided her. "You are smart, Meggy. I thank you for your understanding. But you should not forsake grandma. She can help you in ways I can't."

Morgana looked confused by her mother's words. How could grandmother help her? Morgana Senior was the best witch in existence; so how could anyone but her help Meggy. She shook her head and asked with a slight frown, "How mommy?" Meggy leaned back against Morgana Senior and said with a shrug, "I mean... if you cannot help me with something, how could someone else?" The young Gaunt looked up at her mother with pure doting in her eyes.

Morgana frowned. She could tell that Meggy did not understand. Morgana began softly, "I am not like your grandmother; I cannot allow myself to grow old. I'm afraid I wont be around for much longer." Morgana did not seem sad about revealing that she would leave Meggy if she could not achieve immortality. She simply did not care about the child's feelings enough. Not as much as she cared about her own beauty at least. "She will be available much longer." Morgana had also considered vampirism but knew she would not be able to or want to stay or mother Morgana after that. She did not wish to lose her status as a pureblood either.

Morgana's expression turned to one of utter shock. She held tightly onto her mother and started shaking her head desperately. Only thinking that her mother would not always be there with her made her feel sick to the stomach. Her eyes widened and she pleaded, "Please mommy no!" Knowing that her mother did not like mopping, she fought back the tears that were threatening to spill down her face. Meggy took a deep breath and straightened herself. "I will help you," she said in a shaky voice. Morgana loosened her grip on her mother and reached for her hand. "Tell me what to do and I will do that. But please mommy don't go."

Morgana noticed that Meggy tried to restrain herself. But Morgana was not satisfied with the effort. Morgana reached out and struck Meggy against the side of her head with her open palm. Morgana sighed heavily. "Don't be foolish, girl. People spoil with age. The end comes to us all. When I am gone, this building and everything in it will belong to you. You aren't to let anyone else take it."

After being struck, Morgana turned a bright red. She withdrew her hand from her mother's and looked away feeling ashamed. "I'm sorry mommy," she whispered softly. Meggy gave a shrug and said, "I thought there were ways to gain immortality. I heard rumours at school." She didn't want to lose her mother and Meggy would do anything for her. However, she knew better than push her mother. The girl slid off Morgana Senior's lap and went to sit down by the table. She stared hard at the stew her mother had served her moments before and said, "I understand mother."

Morgana stared forward, she blew air from her mouth gently. After a pause, she turned her head toward her daughter. She was not sorry for hitting the young Ravenclaw. Morgana never regretted her actions. "You do not think I have thought on that myself? Immortals are scarred and ugly. It is not an option." Morgana wondered about telling Meggy that she was growing bored with the current structure of her life. She preferred to start life anew than to commit herself to being the same boring shop-keeper for the rest of her life. "I will be gone. Your father will disappear as well. Brutus will keep the shop until you are old enough to practice the arts yourself." Morgana had debated for months on telling Meggy of her plan, but had ultimately decided not to let her know that Morgana planned to switch places with Brutus' younger wife and kill the other woman.

Meggy sighed heavily, bobbing her head up and down in understanding. She picked her fork and started twirling it in between her fingers. With her shoulders slouched forwards, she leaned against the table. Her mother's next words shook her deeply. Meggy straightened her back and looked across the room with wide eyes. Her body started trembling violently and she bit hard into her bottom lip. "I thought you were different from the others," she uttered in a high pitched voice. Meggy was not particularly bothered by her father disappearing, but her mother was an entirely different story. The child looked heartbroken as she stood up and ran to hide behind the counter. Meggy crouched down to the floor, hugging her knees tightly to her chest.

Ooc: Sorry. Great entry, btw. I was being yelled at by others to do other threads and with schoolwork this thread got lost. Please forgive me! =| IC: Morgana was watching a man pass the shop through the window. He did not even so much as glance in at her. She must have looked wretched, Morgana thought. Though she had ignored the fact that he hadn't even taken a first peek to even consider a longer gaze.
Morgana could sense her daughter's displeasure. It was actually how Morgana herself used to act. She turned her neck sharply when Meggy called her 'common' however. Morgana stood and followed Meggy around the counter. She kneeled in front of her youngest child. "Come up. There is no reason to pout, dear. I know it is scary. But you must be strong." Morgana let herself fall onto her knees and leaned closer to Meggy as she whispered, "Your father and his dreadful son are plotting against me. If this does not happen, then I will be kept away from you. You will be in danger too, you must remain vigilant." Morgana changed her mind suddenly and her plan spilled from her mouth quickly, "I will not die. Your brother and I will take care of everything. It will seem as though I have died, but I will come back for you. I promise."
Morgana wore a scowl. She knew it was a major change in her own plan, to get away from responsibility to Meggy. She imagined that Brutus would not be too pleased either. But also that he would have no choice but to obey. Morgana was not even sure how Meggy would react to finding out that her mother liked to murder. But that would be their life from now on.

This time her mother's presence did not seem to comfort her. When Morgana Senior crouched before young Meggy, the second year buried her face in her knees. Her shoulders started shaking as she sobbed quietly; the thought of losing her mother, too much to bare. Her mother's hot breath against her cheek made her peer up at her and she listened attentively to her words.
Her eyes betrayed her shock as she explained that her own father was plotting against her mother. At the mention of danger, she perked up and lifted her head off her knees to look squarely at her mother. Meggy was thinking of how could she live under the same roof of the man that wanted to harm her mother, at this point she was not even concerned of what might happen to her...
Morgana's next words brought a small smile to Meggy's face. She knew her mother would have never really deserted her... the two of them loved each other too much, or that is what the child wanted to believe. She shifted her position to stand on her knees. Meggy inclined her body towards Morgana, wrapping her arms around the older woman's neck and pressing into her.
"I love you mommy," she whispered softly.

Morgana grinned sappily as she had for her youngest daughter so many times before. Though she thought she looked foolish and despised it. She could not help herself. The girl reminded her of herself young again. Always so foolish and kept in the dark about her families' secrets. "I love you too, Meggy." Morgana whispered the words and peered over her shoulder for any eavesdroppers as though what she had said was some dark thing.
Morgana embraced Meggy closely. She began to silently wonder if Meggy would ever find the truth. That it was she who planned to betray her father and not the other way around. Morgana had come to be very dependant upon Meggy's embraces. It was the only time she didn't have the urge to cause someone grief. Morgana closed her eyes and felt the slightest pang of regret at being convinced only an hour earlier that Meggy was a burden.

Meggy instantly relaxed when she felt Morgana's arms around her. A soft cry of joy escaped her parted lips and she snuggled closer to her mother, clinging onto Morgana as if her life depended on it. Her mother's response brought a smile to her tear stained face. Meggy hugged the older woman tighter and softly kissed her cheek, knowing that no one or anything will ever part the two. The child pulled back and looked up solemnly.
"When are we leaving?"
Her voice was strong and her face betrayed no emotion. She was not the least sorry to leave her father or brothers. Meggy loved them, but they never treated her with kindness. Her side was still sore from Damien's last beating. As she thought about it, Meggy was suddenly conscious of the throbbing pain and winced. Her hand went to her side and she started rubbing lightly, resting her head on Morgana's shoulder.

Morgana turned her head back to her front. She looked down at Meggy's form. Her expression much softer than how she usually looked. Though a weak desire to hide from this encounter and rush Meggy out of the door came over her, Morgana swept it out of her mind almost at once. Their bond was almost like some sort of magic. Morgana adored her eldest son, but her bond with little Morgana was something stronger. Morgana could see herself in the small girl. Meggy's kiss made Morgana smile, a rare treat for anyone.
"After the school year is over. Then everything will be revealed to you. And don't trust any of your teachers. Only Professor Slytherin is trustworthy, dear."
Meggy's pain did not go unnoticed by Morgana. Placing her hand over her daughter's head, holding her to her shoulder. "Hogwarts is far too dangerous. The next year will be worse. It is best you do not return." Morgana did not want to dismantle their moment by forcing Meggy to tell her about her injuries. Selfless, Morgana was not. Even for her own children.
